Sigma AF 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM (Nikon DX) - Review / Test Report

On APS-C digital cameras, things look a bit different though. To achieve the field of view of a normal prime, it takes a lens in the range of 30mm to 35mm, preferably a fast one. Many systems feature a native 35mm f/1.4 lens, however these are usually full frame lenses targeting professional users.

Tack sharp wide open with fast accurate auto focus.

I have used this lens for portraits, landscapes and an 8 image panorama and it has produced the goods for me every time. Tack sharp with lovely fall off in the portraits and great detail in the landscapes and panorama. I can't fault it.

Durable; Fast; accurate, quiet auto focus; Great Features; Great Picture Quality

Amazing lens

Excellent lens with super clarity and ease of use. Autofocus is brilliant. Received superb compliments from my friends and relatives on the pics from this lens. Now i realise ive wasted waytoomuch time with my kit lens.

Good fast lens.

Needed a lens for low lighting conditions. Can't get much faster than f/1.4 ! Sigma makes pretty good third party lenses . I had several with my old Minolta film cameras back in the day and they worked great. This is my first Sigma for a DSLR. Took it out for a test run yesterday.

Construction good, optics less so

There was enough chromatic aberration on this lens to stop me bothering to use it.

This is a great lens, it exceeded my expectations

This is a great lens, it exceeded my expectations. Lightroom has automatic corrections for this lens which helps with any vignetting and color distortions at its largest apertures.

Raises the value of your crop sensor

Last year I made the switch to full frame and parked Sigma's 50mm F1.4 Art lens on my 5Diii. I thought full frame was the most amazing thing, and I could never go back. Then I started doing a little bit of video work, so I dusted off my SL1 to use as camera 2.

The 30mm f/1.4 DC HSM Art is another solid entry in Sigma's prestige lens line-not the finest glass the company has to offer, but a marked improvement over the older (if cheaper) 30mm f/1.4.

Purchase use. Very good from F/2.2. Front focus 1.4-2.0. After 2.2 have litle back focus. From f4 focus is perfect. Work very well in life view with Canon 60D. Mutch better than Canon 50/1.8.Very happy.

Sigma 30mm F1.4 DC HSM "Art"

The Sigma 30mm F1.4 DC HSM "Art" is a fast prime lens designed exclusively for APS-C DSLRs; it's of particular interest to us because its "normal" field of view corresponds roughly to that of a 50mm lens on a film camera.

Fast F1.4 maximum aperture; Convenient focal length on APS-C; Beautiful bokeh; Excellent center sharpness; Compact and easy to hold; Minimal vignetting at F2 and above; Resistant to flare and ghosting; 4-year warranty (USA; Very affordable

More distortion that we'd like to see in a premium prime; Purple fringing near edges/corners; Low contrast wide-open; Somewhat heavy given its size; Average corner sharpness; Not weather-sealed; Sluggish autofocus
