Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM | A ("Art") - Full Format Review / Lens Test

So has Sigma done it again ? Well, the Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM | A isn't flawless but pretty good nonetheless (keeping in mind that the test was performed on a 50mp sensor!). The center quality is nice straight at f/1.4 but the borders are plain soft here.

Seems to have much better focus than mc-11 adapted canon mount version I have

Image Quality aside (which is super sharp from my experience with the EF/MC-11 combo), the focus seems much better on FE mount than my adapted 24. I Have 2 A9's so set them to identical settings and did a quick non-scientific test in a VERY dark room (think I was at 60 shutter wide open at 3200...

A perfectly adequate and very versatile lens at a very reasonable price. It will produce images suitable for all but the biggest enlargements, or most demanding uses. For anyone with a very high-res sensor that is looking for ultimate image quality a better choice is the new 18-35 from Sigma ...

Sharp enough and with sufficient resolution for most purposes Optical stabilisation Useful focal length range Macro capability Very high image quality across the frame is attainable at moderate FLs when stopped down Pretty well put together from high quality materials

Corner sharpness significantly different from edge; Needs to be stopped down to make full use of the image sensor; Significant CA (purple and green fringing) at wider focal lengths; Not weather-sealed

Sigma 24mm F1.4 DG HSM Art

Sigma's lenses have consistently impressed-both in the lab and in the field-since the launch of its Global Vision branding initiative. Sharp from edge to edge; Minimal distortion; Wide aperture; 9.8-inch close focus; Full-frame coverage; Available for multiple camera systems

Noticeable fall-off at f/1.4 and f/2; May require focus adjustment via USB Dock; Large and heavy; Omits stabilization

Sigma 24mm F1.4 DG DN Art Review

The Sigma 24mm F1.4 DG DN Art ($799) is the mirrorless successor to the company's well-regarded 24mm F1.4 DG HSM Art for SLR systems. Available for both L-Mount Alliance and Sony cameras, the lens has a relatively carry-friendly design, weather protection for the outdoors, a wide aperture for blurred backgrounds and low-light photography, and robust on-barrel controls. Best of all, it significantly undercuts Sony's top-end FE 24mm F1.4 GM ($1,399) on price. Simply put, if you're chasing the F1.4 look, this recent Art entry might be the ideal wide standard prime for your bag. It earns our Editors’ Choice award, though it isn’t a clear favorite over the slimmer Sigma 24mm F2 DG DN Contemporary ($639), which remains a solid option for packing light.A Standard Lens for Wide-Angle Photogs In the manual focus days, most starter cameras bundled a 50mm lens, which many considered the standard angle at the time. Tastes have changed, though, and, today, almost every ILC kit lens is a zoom. ...

The Sigma 24mm F1.4 DG DN Art lens produces exceptional images, focuses quickly, and features substantial weather protection, all for about half the price of name-brand alternatives.

Stunning F1.4 optics with outstanding resolution; Bright aperture for blurred background look; Focuses quickly and quietly; Full-frame sensor coverage; Dust, splash, and fluorine protection; Available for E- and L-mount systems

Shows some focus breathing; Sagittal coma flare visible in night sky images; Sunstars aren't quite crisp

Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Review

Sigma has done a great job rolling out excellent Art-series lenses and the Sigma 24mm f/1.4 Art is not an exception. As you can see from the previous pages of this review, the lens shines in a number of ways when compared to lenses like Nikon 24mm f/1.4G or Samyang 24mm f/1.4, with its impressive...
