Sennheiser HD 650 Review

The set produces good bass, but lacks the features of other models.

Comprehensive sound and soft ear cushions make these headphones easy to wear all day

The lack of features is frustrating; and the open-ear design hinders noise isolation

Sennheiser HD 650

The Sennheiser HD 650 full-size audiophile-grade headphones don't block noise, don't provide 5.1-channel sound, and don't connect to your cell phone, but other than that they are pretty close to perfect.

Warm, natural, detailed sound; Very comfortable; Sturdy construction; Replaceable cables

Expensive

Headphones shootout test: Sennheiser HD650, HD497, Grado RS-1, BeyerDynamic DT990

INTRODUCTION I have had a hankering to see if I can find a better pair of headphones. Primarily, to use as a reference to evaluate source components and pre-amps, and also for personal use. I had purchased a Sennheiser HD497 several years ago, for about $50 USD and it has served me well so far.

Sennheiser HD 650

We've strayed to the top end of Audiophile land and encountered something quite special. The HD650 headphones from Sennheiser managed to reveal new elements of tracks we'd listened too hundreds of times and that quite some feat!

Sennheiser HD 650

Pure, natural sound. Reviewers describe music on the Sennheiser HD 650 headphones as smooth, natural and open. Bass is a particular strength, though some experts say that definition isn't the best, meaning that some sonic details occasionally get lost.

Excellent sound quality; Comfortable; Good bass

Bulky; Expensive; Sound leakage

Sennheiser HD 650 review

First things first. Do not be deceived by the 3.5mm jack adaptor – these are not headphones you want to plug into your iPod. They're just too good. You need an amp to tease the most out of the HD-650s, and preferably a lossless audio source.

Sennheiser HD 650: A very good all-rounder!

This Sennheiser HD 650 headset sounds very good. It has a full, warm, friendly sound that even makes it possible to listen to bad sources, so it is a good all-rounder. However, I can recommend everyone to buy a (headset) amplifier to make it sound at its best.

I used them everyday since 6 month from now and they are just superb. The only bad thing about them is the cable that somehow always gets stuck on something ha ha ha so strange. As a beginner audiophile they are solid entrance to the audio world.

Just the start...

The desire to maintain domestic tranquility motivated me to start listening to music through headphones more often. My 30+ year old AKG K240s have served me well but I thought it might be time to audition something new.

Quality product, great sound; I found the 650s to be comfortable over several hours of listening

Now I think I'm going to have to upgrade my CD player...and then a new integrated amp to take full advantage of the 650s

Your music will thank you later

The Sennheiser HD 650 are by far one of the better headphones that Sennheiser has come out with over the last 5 years. They are also more expensive, but worth every penny. These headphones are Hi-Fi quality and very well built.
