Samsung Portable SSD T3 2TB review

If you're after a large capacity portable drive for backing up your photos, videos, music and other precious data, the Samsung T3 is a great choice. However, a traditional hard drive is still much, much cheaper if speed isn't your main priority.

Samsung's Portable SSD T3 reviewed

Ordinarily we take some time to discuss price, performance, and the market as a whole when reviewing SSDs, but in this case we don't have test results for a full field of comparable drives to weigh the T3 against.

PLUGGED IN & WORKED

I have had problems with 3 IOMEGA external hard drives. I use this one without encryption. It works and is fast. I wish the Quick Start Guide had larger print.

Samsung T3 Portable SSD: Australian Review

Samsung's portable SSDs bridge the gap between a small, throwaway USB flash drive -- usually with a tiny storage capacity -- and a larger portable USB hard drive. The new T3 really is the best of both worlds, and brings the luxury of high-speed USB Type-C too, but you'll pay a hefty premium for it.

Samsung Portable SSD T3 500GB USB 3.1 Gen 1 Drive Review

When Samsung released the Portable SSD T1 it sat at the top of the charts when compared to similar USB flash drives but wasn't what we'd call perfect. The reason I say this is because I could never figure out why Samsung decided to use a plastic enclosure with one such expensive USB 3.0 drive...

Samsung Portable SSD T3 Review

Final Thoughts As of writing the is the smallest portable solid state drive available in a capacity of up to 2TB. SanDisk's Extreme 510 drives are around the same size, but are only available in capacities of up to 480 GB.

– Extremely small size; – Solid design; – Great performance; – AES 256bit hardware encryption; – Available in capacities up to 2 TB; – 3 year warranty

– A USB TypeC to TypeC cable should be included

Samsung T3 portable SSD review: better than ever

SSDs are awesome, and so is USB-C. What could be better than a combination of the two? That's the idea behind the Samsung T3, a portable SSD that operates over the USB 3.1 standard for extremely file transfers and access times.

Bonafide SSD speeds, Super portable; plug and play, Works on PCs and Android

Expensive (£300 for 1TB; Not as fast as internal SSDs; Cable remains unsightly

The Samsung Portable SSD T3 delivers excellent performance in a small package with a USB 3.1 port that is both convenient to use and future-proof.

Excellent performance; USB3.1 port for convenience and future-proofing; Metallic chassis; Extremely compact; Android support; 3-year warranty

Small update to the T1; Still quite expensive

Samsung Portable SSD T3 - The new black

Portable solid state drives are the new black. At least, I like to think they are. For me, Samsung's Portable SSD T1 has managed to replace both flash drives and external hard drives for me.

Really fast; Small form-factor; Better value than last year

No USB Type-C to USB Type-C cable in the box; Slightly slower and slightly bigger than last year's model; Slow drives will bottleneck the T3

Slick little USB3 SSD drive!

This drive has is all, size, storage, simplicity and encryption in a bullet-proof package. Samsung really nailed it on this one. I was a little weary about storing all of my photos and video from my entire vacation on just one drive but this thing held up and function as expected problem-free.

This drive will save you tons of grief on the road as it is everything you want tiny, huge, secure and blazing fast; I got this drive to store photos and video on my upcoming month long vacation and boy did it not disappoint; The build quality is excellent - full metal housing, check.

The price does sting a bit at $300+ for 1TB of USB drive but the functionality and reliability are worth it; The drive does take a touch longer to become available on newly connected devices compared to devices you normally connect to (10-15s longer)
