Samsung Portable SSD T3 Review

Final Thoughts As of writing the is the smallest portable solid state drive available in a capacity of up to 2TB. SanDisk's Extreme 510 drives are around the same size, but are only available in capacities of up to 480 GB.

– Extremely small size; – Solid design; – Great performance; – AES 256bit hardware encryption; – Available in capacities up to 2 TB; – 3 year warranty

– A USB TypeC to TypeC cable should be included

The Samsung Portable SSD T3 delivers excellent performance in a small package with a USB 3.1 port that is both convenient to use and future-proof.

Excellent performance; USB3.1 port for convenience and future-proofing; Metallic chassis; Extremely compact; Android support; 3-year warranty

Small update to the T1; Still quite expensive

Samsung Portable SSD T3

We selected two SSD- and two disk-based portable storage products to compare against Samsung's Portable SSD T3 2TB. Kingston's HyperX Max 3.0 was one of the original portable SSDs. Although it's older, it represents the performance of several other products launched during SandForce's heyday.

The new Portable SSD T3 with a metal structure makes the drive very sturdy and less susceptible to damage; The performance is very good, compared with most mechanical, platter-based products sold today

The price is the obvious problem for most users, and we really hoped this series would see a major cost reduction; Real-world file transfer performance is lower than we expected from a product with superior synthetic performance

Samsung Portable SSD T3 Review

Well designed and very speedy, the Samsung T3 is an excellent portable SSD that would make an ideal companion to the traveling professional or media enthusiast that required quick transfer rates in a small and sturdy package.

Great transfer speeds; High capacity; Durable; premium design

Didn't quite reach quoted performance

Samsung's second-gen external SSD is sleeker, faster, and more spacious than competing drives-but it needs a price drop before it's a no-brainer buy.

Slim; durable-feeling shell; Available in capacities to 2TB; Improved write speeds compared to previous-gen T1 model; Future-looking USB Type-C port

High launch pricing makes older model (and a competing SanDisk drive) more appealing

Samsung Portable SSD T3 500GB USB 3.1 Gen 1 Drive Review

When Samsung released the Portable SSD T1 it sat at the top of the charts when compared to similar USB flash drives but wasn't what we'd call perfect. The reason I say this is because I could never figure out why Samsung decided to use a plastic enclosure with one such expensive USB 3.0 drive...

- Build Quality (850 EVO mSATA; - Top Of The Charts Performance; - Aluminum Enclosure; - Just 10.5mm Thick; - Available In 2TB; - Hardware AES-256bit Encryption (Password Protection; - 3 Years Warranty; - USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C Connector; - Price (For Some

- None

Much like the original T1 , the new Samsung T3 proved itself with internal SATA SSD-like results, sustaining a throughput of 390MB/s when downloading (reading) a single large compressed file and 300MB/s when uploading (writing).

Outpaces thumb drives and rival SSDs; super light; runs cool; features USB 3.1 Type-C and a metal case versus the T1's Type-A connector and plastic case

A tad slower than the T1 in some tests yet the 1TB T3 is priced 20% over the T1 at $430 versus $350 (not to mention the 1TB 850 Evo mSATA at $300)

I like having files stored in at least two places and was running out of room on my SSD in my Dell PC. This Samsung drive is a great second file location. It works fast and is password protected.
