Samsung Gear IconX (2018) review

The Gear IconX (2018) are a vast improvement on last year's model with an excellent battery life that won't disappoint. Less capable in fitness, sure, but the trade-off is a smoother, better overall experience.

Significantly better battery life; Comfortable fit; Great sound quality

Finickity tap controls; Clumsy assistant feature; Bluetooth problems persist

Samsung Gear IconX (2018) Review

Calling Bluetooth earbuds "cordless" when they still have a cord connecting them always seemed like a cheat to me, so I had high hopes for the Samsung Gear IconX 2018 edition . Revamping the original wire-free earbuds of last year with more battery life and faster charging, they're a second chance...

Battery life now equals AirPods; Solid sound quality; Ear-clinging fit; Onboard fitness coach can be useful

Battery case is chunkier than AirPods' case; Heart rate sensor has been sacrificed; Local music storage of limited use

Samsung Gear IconX (2018) Review

Longer battery life and new features nudge Samsung's next-gen IconX forward.

Light and durable design; Onboard music storage great for runners; Feature packed (especially for Android users; Five-hour battery triples previous model; Clear; relatively detailed midrange

Charging case offers only one charge; Some functionality still buggy; Stereo channels wobbly over Bluetooth; Fit not particularly comfortable

Samsung Gear IconX 2018 review: better than ever

The first generation Gear IconX had won me over, and now it seems that this second generation is following the same trend. Samsung has apparently corrected the main problem of its Bluetooth earphones by increasing the battery life while adding some new fitness and musical features, which will be...

SAMSUNG IconX Wireless Bluetooth Headphones - Black

No wires

One ear piece isn't as loud as the other and the charging system isn't very good

Overall the Gear IconX is an innovative pair of compact earbuds with several features such as heart rate tracking, built-in storage for offline music playback and bundled wingtips and ear tips but it falls short when it comes to battery life, which is the most important part of a Bluetooth headset.

Light; Compact design; Heart rate sensor; Sweat and Splash Resistant (P2i Nano Coating; 4GB internal storage for standalone music playback

Poor battery life; Average audio quality; Requires IconX PC Manager to update firmware; Priced slightly on the higher side

Great earbuds

I was pleasantly surprised with wireless earbuds. Not only they fitted well onto my ears but they also come with 2 other size fittings. I was little bit skeptical at the beginning if they will stay inside but they actually did.

The Gear IconX from Samsung is certainly a unique and attractive product and provides a glimpse into what's to come. Cord-free wireless earbuds seem to be a natural progression for Bluetooth audio, and it's about time we saw some big strides being made in this segment.

Comfortable design; Heart rate sensors built-in; Works as a standalone player; Intuitive controls

Abysmal battery life; Audio quality could be better; Expensive

Samsung Gear IconX review: Wireless earbuds with great sound-and lots of problems

You might need a leap of faith to insert Samsung's Gear IconX wireless earbuds inside your ear canals. Indeed, as Note7 owners showed us over the last few months, electronics packed with lithium-ion batteries can do double-duty as incendiary devices.
