Samsung Gear Icon X review: Wire-free wonder or cableless calamity

The Icon X offers a tonne of features and decent dynamic sound, making them among the most versatile wire-free in-ear earphones on the market. However, fiddly touch controls and no heart-rate monitor limit overall potential. In short: a great all-rounder that's not quite perfect.

Dynamic sound; Ambient sound adjustment to hear the outside world; Secure fit during exercise; Lots of features

Touch controls are fiddly at times; Connection not perfect; No built-in heart-rate sensor limits fitness potential

New & Improved

I originally purchased the 1st generation Gear Icon ear buds and was not satisfied. They were a great concept but didn't stay connected. I returned them to Samsung (while still under warranty) and they were not able to fix the issue and gave me a great refund.

Samsung Gear IconX 2018 review: The perfect compliment to your Galaxy device

Wire-free earbuds are becoming commonplace since the removal of the headphone jack from some smartphones. While Samsung has retained the headphone jack on their Galaxy devices, they still see the value in going wire-free.

Nice attractive design; Easy to setup on both Samsung and other Android devices; Great sound; once you fit them properly; Nice fit when you find the right ear tip; Good battery life; Competitively priced

Heart rate monitor left out in this version; Software is great on Samsung devices; may be annoying for other users; Price is high at $199.99 but on sale for $159.99 is much better

Samsung Gear IconX (2018) review

The Samsung Gear IconX (2018) are a great pair of wireless earbuds. The sound is good, especially considering their size, and the battery life isn't too shabby either. Beyond just being earbuds for listening to music, you can use them when exercising to track your workout and get some motivation in...

Samsung Gear IconX review

The Samsung Gear IconX are better than their bad name. They are best paired with an Android phone with the aptX Bluetooth codec, so check first. But like the Apple AirPods, these are a Samsung product and work best with Samsung Galaxy devices.

Samsung Gear IconX (2018) Review: These Wireless Buds Have Stamina

With improved battery life, Samsung's upgraded Gear IconX is a solid pair of wire-free fitness earphones. The buds fit perfectly (in my experience), sound great and now can last for a few days' worth of workouts on a charge. The deep Galaxy smartphone integration is a bonus for Galaxy owners.

Better battery life than the original IconX; Comfortable fit; Local music storage

Inaccurate workout tracking; No streaming music integration

Amazing product; great value for incredible battery life, sound quality, and uncompromised user-friendly abilities. Only slight issue is the case is slightly to large, but besides that it is the best earbuds/headphones that I have ever used

I like how they fixed the battery issue from the first one. But they are just too big I use the smallest ear tip and it's still too big. With the first gear icon x I used the large size ear tip. I was going to return them but ended up keeping them.

The first Gear IconX weren't very good wireless earbuds. While it was a good first attempt on Samsung's part at a pair of wireless earbuds, the original IconX had limited battery life, not to mention other niggling issues like iffy wireless performance.
