Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 review: A genuine iPad rival

The Tab S2 is impressively slim and light, but at £399 for the 9.7-inch model it's pretty expensive considering the better-built competition.

Vibrant display; 4:3 aspect ratio works well in portrait or landscape orientation; Ultra slim and lightweight design; MicroSD slot for storage expansion

It's pretty expensive; Build not as high-end as competitors; Graphical limitations; Lower resolution than predecessor; Battery life not great

There is a simple truth here: Not everyone who wants a tablet wants an iPad. I would say most people do but there are plenty who do not like Apple, iOS or following the crowd - or who simply prefer Android and Samsung. For those people, this is the tablet to buy.

Samsung Tablet

"Really pleased with this purchase. Did some research before opting for this tablet. One of the recommendations I came across if using it for a lengthy period of time such as watching a film is to purchase one weighing under 450g which this one is at 389g - and very good advice it was too.

Samsung has a stronghold over the smartphone space, but its grip on the tablet market isn't as tight. That market belongs to Apple, and making a tablet as good as the iPad is not enough for customers to be lured across to Samsung - the Tab S2 has to be better.

9.7-inch Super-AMOLED display; Thin and light form factor; Octa-core CPU; Refined finger scanner; Proficient 8-megapixel rear camera; Aluminium chassis

Lacking distinctive character; Build not as premium as Apple's iPad; Fewer hardware features; but still priced to compete against Apple's iPad

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is much more fun to work with. Its trendy, slim and powerful, and fully justifies its price tag of Rs 39,400. So if you are planning to buy a tablet/hybrid tablet for a long time, this could be the tablet for your.

Great display; Aristocratic design which is tough as well as quite comfortable to use; Really long battery life; 4G connectivity and even SIM calling; Smooth performance

Cameras could have been better; Does not come bundled with the keyboard cover

When it comes to tablets, the current thinking seems to be "go big or go home," or at the very least, "come with a keyboard." The Galaxy Tab S2, on the other hand, seems like a careful perfection of the way tablets used to be - not a computer replacement, but a straightforward 8-inch or 9.7-inch tab...

Fair price

This was a Christmas present for grandson. Black Friday order was unexpectedly cancelled at last minute. This works but real hassle to get one and have it delivered in time. Of course price was more for smaller tablet.

Leave it to Samsung to ruin one of its best products. The original Tab S had plenty going for it -- except few people bought it. That's one reason Samsung might have chosen to make its new model more iPad-like.
