So that's the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. It's just as stunning as last year's S6 Edge and packs in some genuinely useful features to go with its Fancy Dan visage. Chief among these is a whopping great battery life that can withstand even the most demanding of smartphone users.

I went from a Galaxy S4 (rooted, running Android 7.1.2, Lineage) which served me well for 4 to 5 years to the S7 Edge... This is what I call a real upgrade. Compared to the S4, the S7 is faster in all applications (from a restart to opening the camera, launching any app.

The Edge version of the Samsung Galaxy S7 costs £70 more than the standard S7 but offers a larger screen - 5.5 inches instead of 5.1 inches. And of course, the screen is curved at the left and right edges, making the Galaxy S7 Edge the best-looking smartphone of 2016 in our view.

There's absolutely no doubt that the Galaxy S7 is just what it's supposed to be: a high-end device from one end to another that can compete against flagships built by other companies, including Apple.

In 2016, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge was the finest smartphone you could buy: the trouble was that, cosmetic differences aside, it was the same as the considerably cheaper vanilla Samsung Galaxy S7 .
