Samsung Galaxy S5 review: Top-notch specs, less software bloat

Samsung is the global leader in the smartphone market, with 31.2 percent in Q1 2014 according to analyst firm Strategy Analytics (down from 32.4% in Q1 2013). Although Samsung's 2013 flagship Galaxy S4 won multiple awards, it also received criticism for having too much software on-board, too many...

Samsung Galaxy S5

Samsung continues their reign over the Android smartphone market with their flagship phone – the Galaxy S5 . While Samsung doesn't stray too far from its recognizable plastic design, they did add a dimpled back texture to address concerns over the slipperiness of the earlier model.

Bright display with excellent contrast; bright light legibility and color accuracy; 16MP rear-facing camera takes sharp and crisp bright light photos; Excellent battery life; IP67 rating

Slow startup on certain apps like the camera and settings; Uninspired plastic design; Poor auto-brightness

Samsung Galaxy S5: The TechSpot Review

Another year, another flagship Galaxy S device. Since the release of the original Galaxy S in 2010, Samsung has been routinely refining the formula through hardware upgrades, software polish and no shortage of gimmicks.

The AMOLED is back and it looks better than ever; Fast, efficient Snapdragon 801 powers through tasks without struggle; Great camera, especially in good lighting; Improvements to software and design

Fingerprint scanner and heart rate monitor aren't well implemented; Settings screen is terrible; Lacks the polish of its high-end competitors

Review Samsung Galaxy S5 Smartphone

The launch of the Next Generation - what has changed in the realm of smartphones in one year? Nothing fundamental, that's for sure. Case in point: the Samsung Galaxy S5, which is a very decent evolution , but not a revolution.

Outstanding screen; Long-lasting battery; Very good and well explained software; Camera quality very good; Recording and playback quality of UHD videos; Resistant to water and dust; Supports many current transmission standards; USB 3.0 port; High quality GPS; High voice quality; Sturdy case; Battery...

Case is torsionally not completely rigid.., ..; and complains with slight creaking when forces are applied, Pop-up warnings to close the covers properly get annoyoing, Compared to the predecessor, only some details have been improved, Not as easy to maintain, Finger print sensor not always easy to...

Samsung Galaxy S5 – Review

Overall I grew to like the Galaxy S5, yes the overall quality isn't as good as some of the other flagships flying around at the moment. Yes the launcher and the home button do create quite a bit of lag opening up folders and returning to the home and yes it doesn't take the best shots in low light.

Great crisp vibrant colourful screen; In broad daylight the camera is really good; Memory card slot and removable battery make for a flexible device; Water and dust resistance IP67

The built in software is getting a bit much; Camera struggles in certain situations; The launcher is a bit laggy to launch folders and return home; Overall feel isn't as good as its flagship competitors; Rear speaker is little odd sounding at times

Over the last five years, Samsung has established its Galaxy S line of smartphones as the best and most popular Android smartphones on the planet. Naysayers have always questioned Samsung's build quality and software, but their popularity is undeniable.

Sharp and vibrant screen with good sunlight legibility; Great audio quality; Good build quality; Waterproof and dustproof; Great camera quality; Fingerprint Scanner; Good performance; Expandable memory (Upto 128GB; Removable Battery

No dedicated camera key; Loudspeaker is a bit low on volume; The back cover pattern may not impress everyone; Above average battery life
