Samsung Galaxy S III

Samsung's Galaxy smartphones have proven popular, both with reviewers and in the marketplace. Last year's Galaxy S II received an Editors' Choice award, making it a hard act to follow: has Samsung managed it with the Galaxy S III

Excellent high-resolution screen; Some clever usability features; Quad-core processor; Good battery life; MicroSD storage expansion

Large and unwieldy; Smart Stay feature failed to work consistently

Samsung Galaxy S3 Camera Review

The Samsung Galaxy S III is a great smartphone with a comprehensive imaging feature set including a customizable camera user interface, manual control over white balance, exposure compensation and various digital filters and effects. Operation is very quick with a responsive AF and very fast shot-to-shot times but the S3 lacks a physical shutter button and fine image detail in low light not quite up with the best in class.

Fast operation and almost non-existent shutter-lag; Fast AF; Reliable focus and metering; Good quality HD video; Comprehensive imaging feature set; Manual control over ISO and exposure compensation; Efficient HDR mode; Customizable camera app UI; Good array of retouching options in the Gallery app; 4.8 inch screen great for composing images; New image sharing options;

No physical shutter-button; Strong noise reduction and sharpening create 'mushy' low-contrast detail; Soft low-light images; Slightly unintuitive menu structure; Lack of shutter speed indication limits usefulness of manual ISO capability; Unreliable white balance when using flash in mixed light situations;

Samsung Galaxy S3 review: Samsung Galaxy S3

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is easily the most anticipated Android phone of the year -- following in the footsteps of the insanely popular Galaxy S2.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 has a gorgeous 4.8-inch 720p resolution display, a deliciously slim and light casing and a super-powered quad-core engine. It's the Ferrari of the Android circuit so it's very expensive, and Samsung's TouchWiz software isn't always as slick as it could be. But if you're a power-loving Android fan hankering to trouser a monster, look no further.

Android Ice Cream Sandwich; Gorgeous 4.8-inch 720p screen; Slick lightweight design; Quad-core processor; slot for microSD card.

TouchWiz interface can be confusing; Premium price.

Samsung Galaxy S III (S3)

Editors' note: CNET has yet to review the unlocked version of this phone, but you can read the full reviews for the Samsung Galaxy S3 for T-Mobile and AT&T. Or check out CNET UK's review of the global version.

Samsung's latest superphone is just around the corner, and with it comes the promise of a better camera and software features that make Android 4.0 more indispensable than ever.

Samsung Galaxy S III 4G Android phone

When Samsung launched its popular Galaxy S III Android smartphone in Australia back in May, the company said it was "confident" the lack of a 4G model wouldn't hinder sales of the 3G model. Over four months later, a 4G version of the Galaxy S III has hit Aussie shelves. The Samsung Galaxy S III 4G is certainly capable of super fast data speeds on the Telstra and Optus 4G networks, but all that extra speed comes at a cost of precious battery life.

The Samsung Galaxy S III 4G takes all that we loved from the original Galaxy S III and adds 4G network capability. It certainly achieves impressive, super fast data speeds on the Telstra and Optus 4G networks and the latest software is as fast and smooth as ever. Unfortunately, all that extra speed comes at a cost of precious battery life.

Excellent 4G speeds; Slick and fast software; Same great display and design;

Mediocre battery life; Can't edit home screen dock;

Samsung Galaxy S III Verizon Wireless review: Samsung Galaxy S III Verizon Wireless

Editors' note: This review of Verizon's Samsung Galaxy S3 varies from my review of the T-Mobile, AT&T, and Sprint models in the areas of apps, call quality, and data performance.

Pumped with high-performing hardware and creative software features, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is an excellent, top-end phone that's neck and neck with the HTC One X.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 comes fully loaded with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, 4G LTE capability, a zippy dual-core processor, and a strong 8-megapixel camera. S Beam is an excellent software enhancement, and the handset's price is right.

The Galaxy S3's screen is too dim, and Samsung's Siri competitor, S Voice, disappointed us.

Samsung Galaxy S III Android phone

The most hotly-anticipated smartphone of 2012 is here. The Samsung Galaxy S III has been the subject of intense hype, the type usually only associated with products from a certain fruit company. The Samsung Galaxy S III boasts class leading specifications and moulds that together with slick and relatively intuitive software, but is it worth all the hype?

The Samsung Galaxy S III may not have deserved all of the hype that came with its release, as this is an evolutionary smartphone rather than a revolutionary one. Regardless, Samsung's combination of impressive hardware and excellent, intuitive software makes the Galaxy S III a very compelling package. Definitely the most impressive smartphone on the market right now.

Large, vivid display; Largely intuitive user experience; Excellent performance;

Some niggling TouchWIZ issues; Average battery life;

Samsung Galaxy S III (Cricket Wireless) Review

The world's top Android smartphone is now available at a very low price without a contract. Cricket Wireless's innovation with its Galaxy S III phone isn't in technology—this is the same Galaxy S III that millions of people around the world love—but in its price. At $379.99 when it's on sale, Cricket's Galaxy S III beats other no-contract deals by more than a hundred bucks. That's enough to earn it our Editors' Choice award for smartphones on Cricket. Differences on CricketBy now, the Galaxy S III is a well-trodden road, and Cricket's unit is physically identical to MetroPCS's model. Read our review of the MetroPCS device to learn more.  The software build is a bit different, featuring some persistent Cricket bloatware, but that shouldn't be enough to dissuade you. Cricket left Samsung's Game Hub, Media Hub, S Memo, S Suggest, and Samsung Apps stores intact. It added an account manager and some dumb redundant storefront and "mobile browser" links. But as I said, it's not a big dea...

The Samsung Galaxy S III is still one of the world's best smartphones, and available from Cricket Wireless at an unusually low price.

Excellent screen; Fast processor; High-quality camera; Will get more features as time goes on

Android 4.1 not yet available at time of review; Cricket's 4G coverage is very limited

Samsung Galaxy S III (MetroPCS) Review

The Samsung Galaxy S III is MetroPCS's best smartphone, although you'll pay a high up-front price for this quality. MetroPCS's version of the Galaxy S III brings 4G LTE speed and great tricks like Wi-Fi calling and Google Wallet with NFC. It's good stuff, and we're giving it the Editor's Choice for objectively being the finest phone on MetroPCS's network. But it's also $499, and with MetroPCS potentially switching its focus to GSM in six months, I can't help but wonder if there are even better devices coming down the pike then. The big issue here is T-Mobile's impending purchase of MetroPCS, which would take effect in mid-2013. On day one of the merger, the combined company will start selling T-Mobile-compatible phones and shift its focus to folding the MetroPCS network into T-Mobile's. CDMA phones like the GS3 wouldn't stop working. LTE coverage and speeds will actually get better as they join T-Mobile's new LTE network, and as MetroPCS's CDMA voice network slowly gets turned do...

The Samsung Galaxy S III is the best phone for a network that's on its way out.

Most powerful smartphone on MetroPCS; Excellent call quality

Expensive

Rapid performance; Detailed, vibrant display; Excellent photo and video quality;

Feels a bit plasticky and cheap; Stock Android better than TouchWiz; Some features feel gimmicky;
