Samsung Galaxy S20 FE review: The pick of the bunch?

Free from gimmicks, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE appears to hit all the right notes. We think it could well be the pick of the S20 bunch - especially at this price point.

Great display; Flagship performance; Great speakers; MicroSD expansion; IP68 waterproof;

Fingerprint scanner a bit hit and miss; No 3.5mm headphone socket;

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE (128GB, Cloud Lavender) - Excellent review

While the Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition perhaps isn’t the best example of a ‘lite’ phone we’ve seen, it’s still a great choice for plenty of people who were interested in the standard Galaxy S20 but found that handset a little too expensive.

Can take great pictures, Powerful processor, Vibrant color options

Not very ‘lite’ in price, Cheap-feeling design, Battery life feels lacking

A great product with most of the features of the S20+ without the big price tag.

My S7 was broken just prior to Christmas so I wasn't quite prepared to pay big $ for a new phone. I settled for the S20 FE Fan because it had most of the features of the S20+ but was quite a bit cheaper. It was simple to transition from the S7 but has a much better camera, lots of memory and so far the battery is holding out well. And the lavender colour is easy to find in my handbag or back pack. The only thing I find annoying is the stand on the clear case which keeps falling off.

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE (128GB, Cloud Lavender) - Excellent review

Samsung launched the Galaxy S20 FE at an event called "Galaxy for every fan", and FE stands for Fan Edition. It was meant to be a Galaxy flagship that was more affordable for Samsung fans, but for me, it wasn't that because I wasn't really a Samsung fan.

Flagship performance, A Snapdragon chip in Europe, Display, Stereo sound, Not many compromises

Camera loses appeal at, night time, A bit more RAM would be nice

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE (128GB, Cloud Lavender) - Excellent review

The Samsung Galaxy S20 is billed as the flagship phone experience for 2020, but if we’re being honest with ourselves, it’s likely “too much” phone for most people. The Galaxy S20 Fan Edition (FE), arrived a few months after the standard bearer, bringing about most of the S20’s top features, but with...

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE (128GB, Cloud Lavender) - Excellent review

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE undercuts the S20 on price but with similar specifications, where are the cutbacks?

Better price than S20, Better battery life than S20, Better performance than S20 (on 5G version)

Plastic design, Lower resolution screen, Not quite the best value

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE (128GB, Cloud Lavender) - Excellent review

The increasing cost of flagship smartphones over the last couple of years has put them out of reach for many consumers. We all knew it was coming in late 2018 when Apple priced the iPhone X at a cool $999.

Snapdragon 865 Performance for $500 or less on sale, Beautiful AMOLED display with lots of brightness, Solid battery life, Decent camera array with AI digital zoom

in built screen protector

super frustrated as i'm setting up my new s20 fe that there's no clear manufacturer advise that there is (is there?) an screen protector already installed. i bought a screen protector from the retailer (as advised) and unwittingly removed the inbuilt screen protector! The Cygenet brand Samsung S20 screen protector is much too small and has a weird black rim - so jumped online to see blogs stating that there's screen protector installed. I've put it back on but of course it looks crap. How hard would it be to simply note on the phone that there's a screen protector installed?!?

Samsung Quality

Camera - Amazing compared to the older single camera phones, especially up close with the macro shots. Screen - Looks great, I love that it doesn't have the edge anymore. My older edge version Galaxy was always always annoying to use one handed. This one is great, the 120hz screen is a nice to have, makes wasting time scrolling look great. Very sharp Battery - Lasts all day, as it should. Maybe 2 days if you're gentle. Go get the Super fast charger setup, its a game changer. Basically goes to fully charged within the hour which is awesome. But I write this positive review of the new S20 FE because my one ended up face down in a spa the ...view more

Screen cracked easily, poor battery life

Bought phone a month ago thinking non glass edge would protect screen. Phone fell from a bench seat (45 cm) and screen cracked top and bottom. With sharp shards displaced. Battery life not as good as my 3 yo Oppo (which copped a lot of drops without breaking) despite being a bigger battery. Tendency to overheat. Screen finger scanner really unreliable, have to put in pin mostly to unlock screen. Navigation isn't as easy as Oppo either though that may be because I've only had it a month...but I still have to use search to find apps and have accidentally set DND and made emergency calls amongst other issues. Also frustrating I can't stop camera from saving all photos to samsung folder instead of just google..where all my photos are stored, so using double memory for photos.
