Samsung Galaxy S20 Cloud Blue 128GB SM-G980FLBDNZO review

Delivering an industry-leading flagship user experience while juggling tech innovations, marketing strategy and pricing at the same time is a daunting task. It is no longer enough to put out a solid phone - you have to present it to the world just right and you have to price it accordingly.

Excellent build quality and bill of materials. IP68 rating; You get all the flagship features the S20+ has, Familiar, yet modernized design and control layout; Superb 120Hz AMOLED display; Speedy charging solutions, incl. a 25W charger in the box, Very good stereo speaker setup.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Cloud Blue 128GB SM-G980FLBDNZO review

It has almost become sort of a tradition for Galaxy S smartphones to be excellent high-end devices that are unable to keep up with their competitors in all aspects of smartphone life.

slim and lightweight case; bleeding edge up-to-date software; wide LTE band support; support for 8K video; great and very bright 120 Hz display; 60 Hz gaming; decent battery life; 5G optional

no aptX HD; location services not particularly accurate at times; many video features only up to FHD/30fps; Exynos SoC throttles noticeably; high temperatures under load; no real telephoto lens

Samsung Galaxy S20 Cloud Blue 128GB SM-G980FLBDNZO review

“The Galaxy S20 may be the smallest S20, but it's not quite small enough to be a compact flagship phone.”

Beautiful screen; 120Hz refresh rate; Camera takes good photos; Slim; light; and easy to hold; 5G for the future

Size doesn't do the screen justice; Not small enough to be different

Samsung Galaxy S20 Cloud Blue 128GB SM-G980FLBDNZO review

It’s very easy to take the Galaxy S20 for granted. Over the past few years, Samsung has accomplished something unique in the world of Android: it consistently produced an excellent flagship phone without huge flaws. Most people who buy a Galaxy S phone know what to expect.

High refresh rate screen; Good battery life; Excellent fit and finish; High refresh rate screen; Good battery life; Excellent fit and finish

5G not worth the added cost; Cameras oversmooth faces; Software updates only guaranteed for two years; 5G not worth the added cost; Cameras oversmooth faces; Software updates only guaranteed for two years

Samsung Galaxy S20 Cloud Blue 128GB SM-G980FLBDNZO review

Few Android flagships look as good as the Galaxy S20, and fewer even sport features this advanced. Samsung’s latest sports a smooth 120Hz screen, versatile triple-camera setup and 5G support (depending on your carrier), making it one of the best Android phones on the market.

One-hand friendly design; Smooth and beautiful display; Long battery life

No mmWave support on T-Mobile; Cameras struggle with autofocus (pending software update)

Samsung Galaxy S20 Cloud Blue 128GB SM-G980FLBDNZO review

Having used the Galaxy S20 as my daily driver for a little over a week now, and having previously tested the Galaxy S20 Ultra, I can safely say that the smallest, cheapest smartphone in the line up is absolutely the one to buy.

Compact feel; Subtle display curves; 120 Hz smoothness; Good multi-tasker; Fast charging

Space Zoom is a gimmick; No 120 Hz at QHD+; Still expensive

Samsung Galaxy S20 Cloud Blue 128GB SM-G980FLBDNZO review

Samsung’s entry-level Galaxy S20 is a familiar-looking phone. While its design improvements feel incremental though, the camera system has totally changed - with Samsung dropping its dual aperture lens, bumping up the telephoto resolution to an eye-watering 64MP and adding 8K video to the mix.

Competitive 3x optical zoom; Smooth; sharp; punchy screen

Very familiar design; No headphone jack

Samsung Galaxy S20 Cloud Blue 128GB SM-G980FLBDNZO review

The Galaxy S20 improves on last year's S10 line in every way

Perfect size; Excellent display; Great battery life

Best features aren't in Canada; Fingerprint scanner is hit and miss; One UI can be confusing

Samsung Galaxy S20 Cloud Blue 128GB SM-G980FLBDNZO review

The Samsung Galaxy S20 has the right amount of exceptional features you can find in a flagship. It sure doesn’t go over the top with 5G and 100x zoom, but we consider it as the balanced choice even if the specs were toned down in some aspects.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Cloud Blue 128GB SM-G980FLBDNZO review

The Galaxy S20 is so close to being the phone I’d tell everyone to buy for 2020. You won’t find a better display. You might not find a better in-hand feel. Battery life is solid. Performance is excellent. The software experience is smooth and feature-packed. There is so much good going on here.
