Samsung Gear Fit Review: Witness The Fitness

Can Samsung's Gear Fit truly compliment your smartphone experience?

Great screen; Decent design; Smooth performance; Good fitness features; Water proof

Specifically pairs with Samsung S Health equipped smartphone (Galaxy S5) and doesn't do anything the phone can't do; Expensive

The Gear Fit looks the part, but when it comes to results, it doesn't make the podium. Like many Samsung devices, it's a jack of all trades, master of none. Its fitness skills are left wanting, while the screen is too cramped to make it a decent smartwatch.

The Gear Fit's curved Super AMOLED display looks great, and it's responsive and bright too; It wraps around your wrist, making for a more natural fit than other smartwatches; Inside, it's easy to read, but sunlight completely kills the screen.

While Samsung has pretty much nailed the hardware, the software leaves a lot to be desired; It runs Samsung's own OS – not Tizen or Android – which means it can't use third-party apps; This really limits what it can do; The battery life is middling at best.

Samsung Gear Fit review

Combining fitness band and smartwatch, the Gear Fit is beautifully designed. It just lacks a bit of substance right now.

Beautiful AMOLED screen, Good fitness/smartwatch balance, The Fit is a gorgeous piece of tech, possibly the best-looking out there right now; It's also packed with a good balance of fitness and smartwatch features, and given more attention, Samsung could have a winning wearable on its hands.

Limited fitness features; Accuracy problems; Extra charging component; Most of the problems arise from limitations in the software: the inability to upload data to third party platforms; the lack of a pause feature; the lack of GPS tracking for running.

Microsoft Band vs Samsung Gear Fit comparison

For anyone with a Samsung smartphone, the Gear Fit is the best choice, but for everyone else we'd suggest looking elsewhere if you're hoping to buy a smartwatch or fitness tracker in the near future.

Samsung Gear Fit Review – a stylish accessory

With all of this in mind, we come to the most important question – would we buy the Samsung Gear Fit? The curved smartwatch definitely has a lot of appeal – the curved display look stylish on the wrist whilst viewing notifications and information is easy to adjust to.

Great product

I bought this product to help kick start my exercise regime and it hasn't disappointed. I like that I can see incoming calls and texts on my watch so don't have to keep going to phone if its not someone I need to talk to.

Samsung Gear Fit

The main use-case for smartwatches is receiving notifications. The Gear Fit handles this easily. Inbound SMS and messages from other services such as Facebook are displayed on the watch and you can even reply using the canned responses programmed into the watch.

The Gear Fit is a superbly designed wearable fitness band and watch, but it is somewhat limited by price and app issues. Smartwatches are one of those categories that, outside the very geeky, still sit in the "waiting to go mainstream" space.

Great at what it does

Definately a good a good choice for those who want to keep on the go with fitness and technology and offers on screen realtime data and touch interface. The Fit is to be expected to be a fitness band first, as the screen size and shape only allow for the extra "smartwatch" side of things as a bit of...

allows you to track all your activities directly; easy to use; great battery.

3 apps required to make the most of it; doesn't offer in app coaching or goals

Samsung Gear Fit raises the bar on fitness trackers with its dual utility. It's not just a fitness band. Though not as capable for a Smartwatch as other Gear watches, Gear Fit does half the job of showing all the notifications on its curved screen that you can wear more comfortably during workouts.

Water resistant; Fitness friendly design; Swappable strap

50% of a Smartwatch; Pricey and only for Samsung phones
