Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus Review

The Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus are significant step forward that radically improve on Samsung's 2019 true-wireless offering. They offer improved audio, better battery life and clear call quality than their predecessors. However, the lack of ANC is an issue.

Improved audio and call quality; Lengthy battery life; Lightweight, comfortable fit;

No ANC; Mids still underrepresented ;

Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus review: AirPods competitor ramps up the performance

When I put together a list of best true wireless earbuds of 2019 in a YouTube video, I took some heat from fans of Samsung's Galaxy Buds ($96 at Amazon) for not including them in my roundup. I liked the Galaxy Buds, I said, but I thought they were lacking in a couple of areas: They sounded decent for their price -- but not great -- and they just weren't good for making calls in noisier environments because callers complained about hearing too much background noise.

The Galaxy Buds Plus may look the same as their predecessors, but they're significantly improved.

Improved sound, with dual drivers that deliver better bass performance; Boosted battery life (11 hours); Significantly better for making calls; New iOS app for Apple users; USB-C and wireless charging;

Same design as standard Galaxy Buds; Priced higher than the previous model; No active noise canceling; Only IPX2 water-resistance;

Samsung Galaxy Buds+ review

In a sense, the Galaxy Buds+ don’t add much. The same design, similar sound, and a couple of software tweaks. But the original Buds were already a great true wireless option, and those minor adjustments make them even better. The real sell here is the battery life on the buds though. 11 hours’ playtime is basically the best around, and fast charging for the buds and wireless charging for the case make them easy to top up too. I’ve never worried less about battery on any wireless headphones.

Samsung Galaxy Buds+ review: Runner-Up

The new Galaxy Buds+ are slightly smaller and glossier than their predecessors but don’t that size deceive you. In terms of their primary purpose, the new earbuds represent a nifty upgrade. They’re not better in every way but they are when it comes to what matters most.

The Samsung Galaxy Buds+ aren’t earbuds that you’re likely to be disappointed by but I’m not exactly recommending you rush out and buy them either.

Good sound; Plentiful battery life;

No noise-cancellation; Haptic controls;

Samsung Galaxy Buds Live review: Finally, something different

A unique design that's comfortable to wear, sounds great, offering customisation through the accompanying app. But without a proper seal, Samsung can't deliver the active noise cancellation (ANC) as effectively as some rivals.

Unique design; Comfortable to wear for long periods; Good battery life; Decent sound quality; Plenty of features;

Lack of isolation reduces effectiveness of active noise-cancellation;

Samsung Galaxy Buds+ review: Enough of a plus?

A solid pair of wireless in-ears. Sound is improved over their predecessors, while battery life is excellent. But don't shun other similar priced competitors, which will have the upper hand for some listeners.

Lots of bass; Battery life out of the case is very good; Wireless charging case is convenient; Secure fitting; Ambient noise is useful;

Case only holds one extra charge; Not always comfortable for long periods; Sound quality could be better;

Samsung Galaxy Buds+ Review

Samsung rolled out the Galaxy Buds last year to some success, offering a solid alternative to Apple's AirPods for less money. They work well enough that Samsung saw little reason to change much for its new model, the Galaxy Buds+. These $149.99 true wireless earphones are slightly more expensive than the original pair, and offer almost the same fit, design, and audio performance. The improvements come in the form of better voice quality and 11-hour battery life, which we feel is worth the increase in price, though we still give a slight preference to the $180 Jabra Elite 75t. Design The Galaxy Buds+ look identical to the previous Galaxy Buds. They're available in black, blue, or white (the blue is new from the first generation, and replaces the neon yellow version), which applies to both the earphones and the charging case. Each earpiece is a plump bulb covered in glossy plastic, with a small protrusion for the in-canal eartip. Three differently sized sets of silicone eartips and...

Samsung's true wireless Galaxy Buds+ earphones deliver similarly strong audio performance to the previous model, with nearly double the battery life.

Crisp, balanced sound; Long battery life; Strong microphone

Touch controls are too sensitive; Low water-resistance rating
