Fresh from the official launch of their Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) and Galaxy A5 (2017) , we managed to get some time with both phones, taking them for a spin and checking out the features.

When did mid-range phones get good ? When did they get waterproof, with good cameras, great battery life, and design that looks just about as high-end as anything else you can buy?

Samsung's Galaxy A series is positioned as the next best thing to the flagship Galaxy S series. The idea here is to provide an almost top-level experience, which encompasses the feel of the device, features, and of course performance, but at a price that more people can stomach.

Samsung's off to a great start in 2017 with this well-priced, well-designed and well-specced Android. It's not going to outshine the S7 (or the upcoming S8), but it more than holds its own in the mid-range class, offering a good experience all round for its £369 price tag.

Premium looks, fast charging, waterproof

After a few weeks of using the Galaxy A5 2017 on a daily basis, our conclusion is that it is a solid upper mid-ranger that easily holds its own around flagships. It has its quirks. It is also not the most pocket-friendly upper mid-ranger. Samsung phones are not cheap.
