Samsung's 960 EVO delivers the best price to performance ratio we've seen to date, making it a must have piece of hardware.
When initially announced the NVMe drives a few months back, we were eager to get our hands on them for some in-house testing. Their specifications, which included transfer speeds in excess of 3.2GB/s, were among the fastest we'd seen to date for consumer-class M.2-based Solid State Drive.
KitGuru says: It will be interesting to see if the mainstream market is ready to embrace an NVMe M.2 drive, even if it does pack a sizeable performance punch.
Performance; Intelligent TurboWrite
Pricey; Only a three-year warranty
This miniscule SSD comes in an M.2 form factor and uses NMVe (Non-Volatile Memory Express) technology - but don't let its size fool you, the Samsung 960 Evo packs a serious sequential read/write punch. Read on to see how the 960 Evo compares to SATA III-based SSDs and its brother, the 960 Pro.
During today's report the Samsung 960 EVO delivered some great results. It reached its rated read and write speeds of up to 3.2GB/s read and 1.9GB/s write. 4K QD1 read and write speeds were very good averaging about 50MB/s for read and 250MB/s for write, which is close to the Pro's 63MB/s and nearly...
Sound piece of kit Things to know - The advertised transfer rate is not constant for all storage sizes. eg smaller storage lower transfer rate, big storage high transfer rate. The cost of installing a pcie card and this device was the same as a ssd but honestly i don't really see the difference...
way more cooler than the oem Samsung mzvlv256gb ssd that came with my
Fast ; runs cool at lease way more cooler than the oem ssd that came with my
not cheap
Overall, this is a decent drive, certainly faster than any SATA based SSD where it matters. I am however a bit disappointed that the 250 GB version of this drive performs noticeably worse than the larger ones. "Coincidentally", there are very few reviews of the 250 GB version of this drive...
High apparent and burst performance
- Relatively high price; - Much slower than the larger versions; - Disappointing sustained performance
Easy to install and noticeable quick in use, this is a good step up from a standard SSD.
Swapped my old Samsung 950 for this and am very pleased I did. A smidgen over the 3200 read and 1500 write on a Intel x99 Mb with a 5930k @4.5g
