I bought the Samsung 860 pro in the hope of injecting life into my 6 year old toshiba qosmio laptop and I'm so glad that I did. At first I wasn't sure if I should fork out over ￡300 on a ssd when you can easily get a 2tb hybrid drive for a quarter of what your paying for the Samsung 860 pro.

After reading Lionel's recent review here, I spoke with Samsung customer service and was assured their data migration software would work with the 860 pro. So I took a chance and purchased this item.

A little pricey

Very good SSD, I like it, not issue for the moment.

Installed this into an old PC and instantly transformed the performance. All applications opened within a few seconds and the machine felt like a brand new one. I was very happy with it. Sadly after about 3 months, the computer would not boot and reported that it was unable to repair itself.

What's not to like when it comes to Samsung SSD's I have quite a few, including the 860 EVO, older 840's and 850's EVOs and PROs that seem to last forever, as well as the newer NVMe 960 and 970 drives which are easily the fastest drives on the market.

But the SSD 860 Pro is expensive, and its excellent performance isn't meaningfully better than other flagship-grade SATA drives that cost less. These include the Crucial MX500 (currently $200 for 1TB) or the WD Blue ($249 for 1TB).
