Xbox One Review: Quantum Break

Quantum Break is one of the most innovative games to come along in years, and a fantastic exclusive for the Xbox One, but the standard shooter gameplay and lack of replay value are disappointing given the hype around the title and its lengthy development time.

Quantum Break: review

Well, you have to give Remedy credit for the vision. A time travel adventure that hands you extraordinary powers, as well as the opportunity to steer the story down different avenues; including for the live-action TV series thrown in as part of the package.

Quantum Break: time really is power...lots of power

I have been waiting for this game for a long time. I am a big fan of Remedy's previous works, namely Alan Wake. Remedy has proven on multiple occasions that they know how to give a fun action game while also delivering a solid story. Once again, they prove this with Quantum Break.

Quantum Break

Where does one truly begin to tell a story? When the beginning is not the start and the end merely the commencement of another chapter, how does one flow through the narrative in a way that keeps the viewer engaged and not confused?

Gorgeous visuals; simple and intuitive controls; fluid gameplay results in epic showdowns; the tv episodes are a treat to watch; interesting use of the protagonist and antagonist dynamic

Decisions don't seem to have much impact on narrative; some parts of the plot feel poorly explored; sequel baiting ahoy

Review: Quantum Break (Xbox One)

Quantum Break is undoubtedly the oddest high-profile game of this generation. Developer Remedy has a history of making games that lean heavily on pop culture, movies and horror fiction, but with Quantum Break, it has leaped across the gap from borrowing to actually creating something new.

Excellent game presentation; TV-style cutscenes; Graphics is top notch

Very short gameplay; Lacks environment variety; Huge HDD space required

(Xbox One Review) Quantum Break

Quantum Break is an action-packed, time-shifting adventure whose traditional gameplay is outpaced by its ambitious storytelling. It starts off slow with muted, perfunctory opening acts that don't revel in the what-ifs of time travel so much as struggle to wrestle numerous storylines and characters...

Quantum Break

Quantum Break is the new benchmark for transmedia video game/television show hybrids with a stellar script, satisfying time-mystery narrative and high-octane third-person action-gunplay.

Quantum Break review review

Stunning and realistic in motion; Combat feels powerful and fun; The ‘Junctures’ and ‘Episodes’ feel unique – and work;

Unavoidably linear; No real replay value; Immersion breaking AAA trappings;

Time is fleeting

Few games use live-action cutscenes as emphatically as Quantum Break. It's one of the game's defining elements. Between each of its five gameplay-based chapters, you have the opportunity to watch roughly 20-minute-long episodes, which are entirely optional but designed to offer insight into the...

Impressive visuals; Great environmental destructability; Effective performances from a great cast; Time powers enable great creativity during combat

Sloppy movement and weapon controls; The element of choice isn't as powerful as it seems; Forced; unimaginative platforming sections
