The real treasure in wasn't Lara's story, bipedal alligator warriors, or a bounty of gems, but solving complex and varied environmental puzzles with friends. Unlike the AAA, big-budget, blockbuster 'Tomb Raider' franchise that Lara is best known for, the 'Lara Croft' series is smaller in production value and scope. It's not an over-the-shoulder third-person action-adventure with a big expensive engine.

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris is a great adventure. With the complex puzzles, enjoyable gameplay, and exquisite world to explore, Crystal Dynamics once again gives Tomb Raider fans an exemplary addition to the acclaimed series.

The fact that Temple of Osiris features the classic, confident, adult version of Lara Croft rather than the newfangled, young, vulnerable version should tell you exactly what this game is aiming for: Simple escapism, a video game for gaming's sake.

Lara has seen her share of ups and downs over the years but the franchise is clearly on the upswing as the series reboot, "Tomb Raider", was a smash hit when it arrived on last gen consoles back in 2013.

I like to sometimes think of videogames as strange machines. Each one of them built by many engineers and artists compiling and crafting the pieces, gears and sockets. Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris is one of those games that seems to fit well into that analogy.

It isn't all that often a game's initial screen is a lesson in how to pronounce its title, but that's what Pneuma does, but even then /' nju:ma / doesn't quite explain it properly. So it pretty much got known as Breath of Life in the Gamestyle offices. Now as for what Pneuma: Breath of Life is.

It has some scary monsters but it is really good, there is also a lot of fighting and guns.

Portraying existential quandaries as gameplay puzzles is a daring idea, but ultimately this is a more enjoyable game to watch and listen to than it is to play.

The visuals are gorgeous and despite odd moments of clumsiness the script is often funny; clever; and genuinely thought provoking
