I bought the scanner, installed it no problem, but the Presto Pagemanager software that comes with it won't install. I get an error: "This application requires Mac OS X v10.6 or later". As I am running 10.10.2, its pretty frustrating.

Its speed and scan quality are OK, but flimsy build quality and buggy software count against the PS286.
When I reviewed the Plustek SmartOffice PS252 document scanner in early 2007, my key complaints were all related to software. So when Plustek told me that the SmartOffice PS282 ($350 street) was essentially an improved version of the PS252, I had high hopes for it.
Low cost; Duplex; 600 pixel-per-inch (ppi) optical resolution; 25 page-per-minute (ppm) rated speed
Software bundle is disappointing, particularly for scanning business cards; One button scanning uses arbitrary numbers for scan definitions, so you have to memorize the list of definitions or look them up
Took me a few hours, but finally got it working with Windows 10. :D Windows still doesn't recognize the scan button on the scanner, but no big deal I just scan via the software. Everything's working great... so far. :)
With the paper width slider on, its hard to scan letter sized paper for whatever reason. The paper doesn't quite fit.
Its a nice compact scanner which I was looking for
1) The CD ROM provided didn't work and I could not download the application software from the plustek site; 2) I emailed their tech support and 2 days later I haven't even received an acknowledgment of receipt of my case.
The Bottom Line The Plustek SmartOffice PS282 portable document scanner is a handy and compact scanner that zips quickly through jobs and folds up so it doesn't take up a lot of space.
Compact; Fast
Weak business-card scanning
