Pentax elbows its way into the enthusiast digital SLR market with a tough outdoor camera. PENTAX is pitching the dustproof, weather-resistant and cold-resistant K-70 at the outdoor photography market. However, the K-70's specs suggest it's an all-rounder suited to a much wider range of subjects.

I got this camera as part of an insurance bundle due to a major home theft last year. As it was new for old, this was the closest to my beloved K-01 when it came to bodies. So, what is it like and more importantly, is it a worthy replacement to the K-01 Firstly, size.

It has some lovely pluses, the weather sealing, the tilt/twist screen is a boon for those who like low level macro shots, and it is nice and light. Oh and of course it has the same sensor as the K-3 so the image quality is fantastic!

I have had the Pentax K-70 for about 6 months. I bought it to replace the K-50 which I loved until it stopped working. This camera has the worst picture quality of any camera I have ever known. I am planning to go to Canon. I am done with Pentax.

I bought the K-70 after first buying the Pentax DSLR K-S2 the K-70 is in my opinion at least twice as good. The K-70 is based on the older model and has the weatherproofing and a slightly better stabilisation system plus new pixel-shift.

Disappointing kit lens aside, the Pentax K-70 is a compact, solid and very well specified camera for enthusiasts that also delivers good value for money. I have to admit to having a soft spot for Pentax DSLRs; I've used them on and off for almost a decade, and have always found them capable and pleasant to shoot with. But one thing I really don't understand is their naming convention.

Relatively slow and clunky live view; In-camera JPEG processing needs a lot of twekaing for the best results; LCD screen isn't touch sensitive

Pentax has a reputation for delivering features reserved for premium models in its entry-level and midrange SLR lines. The K-70 ($649.95) is no exception, boasting full weather sealing, a glass pentaprism viewfinder, and in-body image stabilization.

I haven't used it to its full capability yet but based on my K30, it should be good. That camera had a known fault in it, but one learnt how to work around it - an accidental drop at night finished it off. I liked that it could be used in adverse weather (down to -25 degrees C).
