Panasonic Lumix S 18mm F1.8 Review

The Panasonic Lumix S 18mm F1.8 ($999.99) slots in as the widest autofocusing prime for L-mount cameras. Its angle of view makes it a good fit for present-to-camera vlogs, its bright aperture softens backgrounds, and when stopped down it works well for landscapes, cityscapes, and architecture. It costs a bit more than the similarly minded Sigma 20mm F2 DG DN Contemporary ($699), but the Panasonic lens includes more robust weather protection, as well as linear focus response. Along with the wider angle, there's reason to spend more on the Lumix S 18mm F1.8, especially for video applications.Wide Angle for L-Mount The Lumix S 18mm works with full-frame L-mount cameras made by Leica, Panasonic, and Sigma. It's a mid-sized prime, coming in at 3.2 by 2.9 inches (HD) and 12 ounces, with support for 67mm front filters. It matches up with the Lumix S 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm F1.8 lenses in general form and filter size, a plus for swapping lenses on gimbals or sharing a set of filters. ...

Thanks to its bright aperture and wide angle of view, the Panasonic Lumix S 18mm F1.8 is a good lens for vlogs, landscapes, and interiors, though it costs a bit more than alternatives.

Bright optics with full-frame coverage; Super-wide angle of view ideal for landscapes and vlogs; Quick, quiet linear autofocus; Dust, splash, and smudge protection; Minimal focus breathing for video; Modest form factor is a good match for gimbals

Can exhibit false color in focus transitions; Few on-barrel controls

Panasonic Lumix S 18mm f/1.8 Ultra-Wide-Angle Lens - Brand New review

The Lumix S 18mm f/1.8 slips neatly into Panasonic’s f/1.8 range of L-mount lenses, offering the widest focal length in the collection. It delivers high quality results and despite its wide field of view, it’s remarkably untroubled by curvilinear distortion.

Nice size and weight for full-frame, Weather-resistant design, Excellent image quality

No stabilisation, Focus ring not customisable

Panasonic Lumix S 18mm f/1.8 Ultra-Wide-Angle Lens - Brand New review

The Apple iPhone 14 isn’t a huge upgrade on the iPhone 13, yet it still is a great phone with a top camera, good battery life and all the iOS benefits.

Clever safety features, Very good battery life, Reliable camera, Fun colours, You’ve got an ageing iPhone: If you’re on an iPhone 11 or older, then the changes here will make a notable difference.

Stuck on a 60Hz display, Minimal differences to the iPhone 13, You’ve got an iPhone 13: The changes from Apple’s previous phone aren’t enough to warrant an upgrade this year.

Panasonic Lumix S 18mm f/1.8 Ultra-Wide-Angle Lens - Brand New review

The Apple iPhone 14 is no match for the just-released iPhone 14 Pro, but if you ignore that, it’s one of the most effective phones around.

Great cameras, front and back, Fast performance, Good battery life, Innovative safety features

Design too familiar, Some average features

Panasonic Lumix S 18mm f/1.8 Ultra-Wide-Angle Lens - Brand New review

Apple's latest non-Pro iPhone is superb - it's just that it's strikingly similar to last year's effort.

Still an incredible smartphone, Brilliant battery life gets a bit better, Excellent camera system gets a bit better

Last year’s Pro hardware, Wireless charging slow by modern standards, No USB-C; it’s now well overdue

Panasonic Lumix S 18mm f/1.8 Ultra-Wide-Angle Lens - Brand New review

More like an iPhone 13S. The generational upgrades for the iPhone 14 are limited to a few subtle changes. At the same time, however, the base price climbs to 800 USD, while the only true innovation happens inside the iPhone 14 Pro series.

excellent OLED display, dust- and waterproof, fast Wi-Fi, wide range of supported frequencies, great camera, very fast performance, good battery life

display limited to 60 Hz, charging rate limited to 20 watts, no macro lens, wide notch

Panasonic Lumix S 18mm f/1.8 Ultra-Wide-Angle Lens - Brand New review

“The iPhone 14 isn't a huge upgrade compared to its predecessor. But with a great design, screen, performance, and cameras, that's far from a bad thing at all.”

Comfortable, high-end build, OLED screen looks fantastic, A15 chip performs great, Good camera upgrades, Dependable battery life, Helpful safety features

60Hz display, No telephoto camera, eSIM might be a pain for some

Panasonic Lumix S 18mm f/1.8 Ultra-Wide-Angle Lens - Brand New review

Hannah Stryker / Review Geek The iPhone 14 is the latest iteration of Apple’s flagship device. Since its launch, the iPhone has set the standard of what a smartphone is, what it does, and how it looks. Fifteen years later, it’s still doing that.

Top-notch cameras, Amazing display, Snappy performance, Great battery life

It's just "this year's iPhone"

Panasonic Lumix S 18mm f/1.8 Ultra-Wide-Angle Lens - Brand New review

The iPhone 14 isn’t much of an upgrade over the iPhone 13, but it’s still a great device and an upgrade for anyone coming from the iPhone 11 or older.
