REVIEW: Panasonic Lumix G Vario 12-32mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH. Lens Review

This standard zoom lens for Micro Four Thirds (MFT) system cameras may not seem like anything special when looking at the on-paper specification, but it collapses down to a minuscule 24mm long.

Great small zoom.

I wanted a 24mm equivalent lens and this gave it to me at a reasonable price. This lens is great on my epl-2. It is very sharp at wide apertures and all focal lengths. It does vignette at 24mm wide open but stopped down one stop it's fine.

Great lens but fiddly to attach

I forgot to say in my previous review of this lens that it is difficult to attach. The Micro Four Thirds mount on my Olympus E-M10 is tight with all lenses, but this lens has very little to get hold of. If you're not careful, the zoom ring moves and you end up turning the lens against the zoom stop.

Great Picture Quality; Lightweight; Simple Controls

Tough To Attach

Fantastic little lens for the $$

Ok so this is my review on the lens. I have recently made the switch from full frame to micro 4/3s. That being said this lens is fantastic for the money. I shoot real estate photograph/video for my real estate listings. I also blog quite a bit and this lens holds it down.

Great replacement for your kit lens.

Sharp, clear lens. Great for photo walks and general purpose. Attached to my GX7 it makes an excellent combination.

This is my new favourite lens and lives on the camera now

This is my new favourite lens and lives on the camera now. I'm only a keen amateur, but I'm certainly happy with the results and its compact size means the Panasonic G3 is no bigger than a small bridge camera.

Panasonic Lumix G Vario 12-32mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH. Review

The Panasonic Lumix G Vario 12-32mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH. ($349.95 direct) is a compact zoom lens for Micro Four Thirds cameras. It was introduced as the standard kit zoom for the pocketable Lumix GM1( at Amazon), but is also available for purchase on its own. Its slim design is made possible by its collapsible design, but it also omits a few common features (including a manual focus ring) in order to maintain its figure. It's not quite as slim as a power zoom lens like the Olympus M.Zuiko ED 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 EZ($299.00 at Amazon) or Panasonic Lumix G X Vario PZ 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 ASPH.($349.00 at Amazon), but it's sharper than either of those lenses and offers a slightly wider field of view. The 12-32mm($305.61 at Amazon) offers a full-frame equivalent field of view of about 24-64mm, placing it in the wide-angle to long standard-angle category. It's a bit wider, but lacks the telephoto reach, of most Micro Four Thirds kit lenses; they are typically 14-42mm designs. When collapsed, the 1...

The Panasonic Lumix G Vario 12-32mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH. lens makes some compromises to achieve its small size, but it's impressively sharp and optically stabilized.

Sharp throughout zoom range; Very compact; Optically stabilized

No manual focus ring; Distortion at wide angle; Modest zoom range; Pricey
