Panasonic Lumix GH4 review

It's hard not to be impressed by the Lumix GH4. It handles confidently as a stills camera and is an absolute joy for video. As I've mentioned throughout my review, it is not a low light monster: the 1:1 crop for 4k video from the relatively small sensor of Micro Four Thirds means the footage...

4k (C4k and UHD) video; recorded internally; 1080p at up to 200Mbit/s or 96fps for slow motion; Pro-level video options; controls and displays; Weatherproof body with broad customization; Very fast single AF speed.

4k footage looks noisy at 800 ISO and above; 1080p footage uses non-integer crop; Rolling shutter artefacts in some conditions; Still photo quality no better than other MFT cameras; Burst speed can slow to 5-6fps with CAF & focus priority; No phase-detect / hybrid AF; No built-in stabilization,...

An interchangeable lens camera that's suitable for high-end camera nuts and professionals

Panasonic's DMC-GH4 is a serious camera that's designed for the most creative of minds. It's a Micro Four Thirds-based, interchangeable lens camera that packs not only an excellent ability to capture stills, but also the ability to record ultra-high definition, 4K video.

Great build quality and user comfort; High calibre stills and video capturing; Packed with features

Can take a while to get used to all its buttons and settings; but that's the case with all high-end cameras

Panasonic GH4 review

The Panasonic GH3 is widely regarded as a great compact system camera for shooting video, but its stills capability has been rather overlooked. Despite the fact that its headline specification is its ability to shoot 4K video, Panasonic is hoping that the GH4 will gain greater respect for its...

Panasonic LUMIX DMC-GH4KBODY 16.05MP Digital Single Lens Mirrorless Camera with 4K Cinematic Video

A smaller Micro Four Thirds (MFT) sensor and a DSLR look make the GH4 portable and approachable with a design made for anyone to step in and take control. The camera shoots up to 4K video internally which bests some of the other major 4K players on the market.

This is a very good camera, just figure out what kind of stabilization you want first...

Very good M4/3 camera which I enjoyed using for almost a year, until switching to the Olympus EM1. The reason for the change was Panasonic has image stabilization in their lenses and the Olympus has it built into the camera, which for me was an advantage at the time.

Amazing Doesn't Begin To Describe

I could go on and on about how awesome this camera is, and how sick it is that's a true 'film/cine 4k DSLR/DSLM' with amazing qualities and what not, but all I'm gonna say is this. With the right lenses and the right adapters... this thing rivals even a 2k-4k RED!

24p And 24hz Modes; Easy To Use; Fast/accurate auto-focus; Good Image Quality; Good Image Stabilization; Large Clear LCD; Small / Compact; Truly Cinematic Look; Variable Frame Rates

10bit 422 Hdmi Only Rec; 420 Compression To Card

Great Camera!!!

This my third GH4. I primarily shoot classical music concerts and operas/musicals with locked off cameras, so having a camera that stops recording at 29 mins 59 seconds, is not an option for me. Lighting is not normally an issue, so f/4.0 at 640 ISO covers most of my theater shooting needs.

Panasonic GH4

The Panasonic GH4 takes the impressive specs and performance of the GH3 and kicks them up a notch -- a big notch -- with faster burst shooting, quicker AF, and a host of other improvements, not to mention tons of new video features.

Excellent still image quality for its class; Fantastic, highly-detailed video quality; Superior video recording chops with 4K video (both Cinema 4K and Ultra HD); Responsive all-around performer with great AF performance and burst shooting; Rolling shutter is minimal with 60p and 30p video; Splash-...

High ISO performance not as good as some APS-C models (IQ drops quickly past ISO 3200); Overall still image quality not significantly better than the GH3; Sluggish buffer clearing with RAW files; Rolling shutter noticeable on 4K video; Not as compact as most mirrorless cameras, High ISO performance...

Panasonic Lumix GH4 review

We've often thought of the Panasonic GH series as the best consumer interchangeable lens system for video capture on the market. It's not hard to see why: the Panasonic Lumix GH4 offers 4K video capture at usable frame rates. On paper that's untouchable at this level.

Fast in all conditions; 12fps burst mode; silent electronic shutter option; movie mode as good as it gets and will sell the camera alone; fully featured screen and electronic viewfinder; pinpoint and customisable autofocus options

Lacks smooth gradation in images; needs better battery life; some button placement cramped; would like a larger viewfinder; price may seem a lot if you're not here for 4K video; autofocus generalisation in low-light conditions
