It might not have the sharper display of the 7 Pro, but we think the 7T is the best OnePlus phone this year on balance, regardless of cost. The big, flat and skinny-bezeled screen on the front is gorgeous, the battery lasts, the performance is speedy, and the cameras are fun to play with.

From its humble start making "flagship killers" in 2014, OnePlus has become one of the fastest-growing smartphone makers, ranking in the top five globally and overtaking brands like Sony, HTC and even LG - the same companies OnePlus once sought to take down.

OnePlus has had quite the journey in a short amount of time. The Chinese company has built a reputation for delivering premium tier flagship smartphones at lower prices than the competition, becoming a major smartphone player globally in just five years.

The OnePlus 7T is essentially the OnePlus 7 Pro with a few key details changed, just a smidgen. Today we're taking a peek at how well the OnePlus 7T stands up to the OnePlus 7 Pro as well as the rest of the market.

OnePlus just announced the new OnePlus 7T, a follow-up to the OnePlus 7, which was released in global markets (but not the US) earlier this year, and the OnePlus 6T from last year. The 7T has a lot of the same features as its sibling, the OnePlus 7 Pro , but it's a little smaller and costs less.

The OnePlus 7T sounds like my perfect phone on paper, packing a nice high-end chipset, a bright 1,000 nit 90Hz screen, and the latest Android 10 software. While flagships are pushing the market into fatigue at over a thousand dollars, this phone champions affordability at "just" $600.

Display 90Hz is super smooth; and the screen gets quite bright for easy visibility outside; Super macro camera Being able to focus as close as an inch away won't be useful for most people; but it's very useful for me.

Display again I examined two units; and the screen is much less uniform at lower brightness than the older OnePlus 7 Pro; which is especially unpleasant when using Android 10's dark themes.

Highlights include an upgraded Fluid AMOLED display, more powerful CPU, better fast charging and a new triple-sensor rear camera. The upgrades don't sound like much, but they add up to make the OnePlus 7T feel like a significant improvement on the original OnePlus 7.
