OM System OM-1 Review

OM Digital Solutions, the new home for the historic Olympus camera brand, is marking the 50th anniversary of an icon this year, the OM-1, and celebrating the occasion with the digital OM System OM-1 ($2,199.99, body only). Plenty about the mirrorless camera should excite Micro Four Thirds shutterbugs, including speedier computational imaging modes, cleaner high-ISO images, blistering burst rates, and a build that's just as tough as its predecessor. The OM-1 is a significant upgrade from the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark III on all fronts. It falls shy of our Editors' Choice award, which stays with the $1,700 Fujifilm X-T4, but photographers invested in Micro Four Thirds lenses should look closely at the OM-1. The Ultimate Olympus If you missed the news, Olympus sold off its imaging division in 2020, opting to concentrate instead on its medical and industrial businesses. After some corporate shuffling, OM Digital Solutions emerged as the caretaker of the Olympus arm of the Micro Four Thir...

The OM System OM-1 pushes Micro Four Thirds cameras forward with a Stacked CMOS sensor. It’s a strong upgrade for E-M1 Mark III owners, thanks to better-feeling controls, a refreshed interface, and a robust computational toolset.

Sturdy, IP53-protected body; Up to 50fps Raw capture with continuous focus; Large, sharp viewfinder; 5-axis IBIS; Strong computational toolkit; Autofocus system supports subject detection; 4K60 UHD and DCI video

Subject tracking struggles at times; Branches trip up bird detection; Fragile micro HDMI connection

OM SYSTEM OM-1 review

The Apple iPhone 14 isn’t a huge upgrade on the iPhone 13, yet it still is a great phone with a top camera, good battery life and all the iOS benefits.

Clever safety features, Very good battery life, Reliable camera, Fun colours, You’ve got an ageing iPhone: If you’re on an iPhone 11 or older, then the changes here will make a notable difference.

Stuck on a 60Hz display, Minimal differences to the iPhone 13, You’ve got an iPhone 13: The changes from Apple’s previous phone aren’t enough to warrant an upgrade this year.

OM SYSTEM OM-1 review

The Apple iPhone 14 is no match for the just-released iPhone 14 Pro, but if you ignore that, it’s one of the most effective phones around.

Great cameras, front and back, Fast performance, Good battery life, Innovative safety features

Design too familiar, Some average features

OM SYSTEM OM-1 review

“The iPhone 14 isn't a huge upgrade compared to its predecessor. But with a great design, screen, performance, and cameras, that's far from a bad thing at all.”

Comfortable, high-end build, OLED screen looks fantastic, A15 chip performs great, Good camera upgrades, Dependable battery life, Helpful safety features

60Hz display, No telephoto camera, eSIM might be a pain for some

The iPhone 14 isn’t much of an upgrade over the iPhone 13, but it’s still a great device and an upgrade for anyone coming from the iPhone 11 or older.

Great camera, Good battery, Emergency features are cool, Still excellent performance

Display could use some upgrades

More like an iPhone 13S. The generational upgrades for the iPhone 14 are limited to a few subtle changes. At the same time, however, the base price climbs to 800 USD, while the only true innovation happens inside the iPhone 14 Pro series.

excellent OLED display, dust- and waterproof, fast Wi-Fi, wide range of supported frequencies, great camera, very fast performance, good battery life

display limited to 60 Hz, charging rate limited to 20 watts, no macro lens, wide notch

OM System OM-1 review

The OM-1 brings speed, improved AF and more detailed video to a system that already offered great image stabilization and small and light camera/lens combinations. This makes it a powerful all-rounder with particular strengths for wildlife. That compactness comes as a trade-off for absolute image quality but a series of computational multi-shot modes can help close the gap in certain circumstances. It's a lot of capability for the money.

Wildlife, hand-held video, some sports shooting;

Family photos where simplicity is essential;
