Olympus E-30 The new E-30 digital single-lens reflex camera (SLR) from Olympus combines a solid feature set with a truly creative personality. Its foundation is comprised of a sturdy body design that feels comfortable in the hand; a swing-out 2.7-inch LCD, 12.3-megapixel image sensor (providing...

Olympus E-30 review
In terms of image quality, performance, features, and design, the Olympus E-30 stacks up well against other digital SLRs in its price range. Its creative features are a plus, and we very much liked having the swing-out LCD screen.

Olympus E-30
Even though it's billed as a mid-range digital SLR camera, the Olympus E-30 is one of the better models on the market for inexperienced users who are thinking of making the switch to a D-SLR but have been scared off by all the dials and buttons.
Pros:
- Live View mode works very well
- good on-screen menu system
- fast performance
- more than 30 shots in high-speed burst mode
- useful scene modes
Cons:
- Optical viewfinder is uncomfortable to use
- images displayed noticeable noise at ISO 400
- no physical focus mode switch

Olympus E-30
The Olympus E-30 is the new mid-range model in Olympus's E-System DSLR line-up, slotting seamlessly into the gap between the cheaper, entry-level E-520 and the more expensive, professional E-3.

Olympus E-30 review Review
A great general-purpose digital SLR, the Olympus E-30 offers an attractive alternative for advanced shooters not yet wedded to a system

- Very good photo quality and performance
- Extensively customisable
- Flip-and-twist LCD
Cons:
- Poor 'my mode' custom-settings implementation

Olympus E-30 Review
When we tested the Olympus E-3 in January 2008, we described it as ‘…a fine all-rounder and a jewel to use' and duly awarded it a mark of 90% and a coveted WDC Gold Award. We praised its build, image quality and general interface, and it looks like those comments must have filtered their way back to...
Pros:
- Free-angle LCD screen
- build quality
- light body
- button layout
Cons:
- Pointless Art Filters
- tends to underexpose
- JPEG ISO performance

Olympus DSLRs keep getting better, and the E-30 is undoubtedly the best yet. Despite only twelve months gap between them the E-30 is a considerably more appealing camera than the E-3 (which, thanks to its tank-like construction, still sits above it in the range).
Pros:
- Excellent out-of-camera JPEG results with good Dynamic Range
- pleasing color and subtle tonality
- Bright clear viewfinder far better than most Four Thirds cameras
- Slightly improved resolution and pixel level sharpness over E-3
- Good range of image parameters (but not enough latitude in terms of...
Cons:
- Resolution not quite as good as best in class
- though you won't see it in JPEGs
- Higher noise levels/noise reduction at higher sensitivities than its best competitors
- Not much highlight headroom in raw files (around half a stop
- Unreliable auto white balance and presets in artificial light
- Nice...

[REVIEW-OLYMPUS E-30 DSLR]
This 12 megapixel camera with a four-thirds sensor is a de-tuned version of the flagship E-3 DSLR. Build quality and ergonomics are excellent and performance is similar to the E-3.
Pros:
- This is an excellent camera that produces fine images, but special mention must be made of the lens
- Mechanically and optically it is outstanding
- Zoom and manual focus are smooth and auto focus is fast and accurate
- Contrast and resolution right across the frame are excellent.
Cons:
- This is nit picking
- but we would have liked a little more damping (resistance) in the manual focus mechanism
