Nokia N95 review: Nokia N95

Every now and then a product comes along that promises to revolutionise the market. The N95 is such a beast, combining satellite navigation, a cutting-edge 5-megapixel camera, a media player and PDA functions in a handset that somehow isn't the size of a brick.

The N95 almost justifies its hefty price-tag for the sat-nav alone. Despite a few bugs, Nokia's handset succeeds as phone, camera, media player, PDA and above all personal navigator. If we had to rescue just one device from a burning house, it would be the N95

GPS on the fly; huge colour screen; good 5-megapixel photos; unbeatable connectivity.

Sluggish menus; a few bugs and crashes; average MP3 playback; high price.

Nokia N95 8GB

It was only last week that I wrote at the end of my review of the Nokia N81 8GB that you should keep an eye open for my take on the N95 8GB. Well, if you waited, you may be pleasantly surprised; because I'd say the N95 8GB is a better device.

Nokia N95 8GB smartphone

With the N95 8GB, Nokia has added significant improvements to an already feature-loaded multimedia mobile. The enhancements aren't solely cosmetic - it's not just an iPhone-challenging memory upgrade either.

Nokia N95 8GB

As its name rather heavily implies, the Nokia N95 8GB is a nominal upgrade to the N95, sporting 8GB of internal memory rather than the 160MB found in the original. Filling the role of an HSDPA capable mobile phone, a 5-megapixel digital camera, GPS, MP3 and video player, it remains one of the most feature-packed handsets on the market. While the substantial memory boost is a definite plus, several notable flaws -- including its chunky size and unwieldy GPS -- have been left unchecked. Nevertheless, it remains a worthy successor to the original N95 and is unquestionably a superior product.

The Nokia N95 8GB has taken most of the things we like about the N95 and carefully refined them. While some flaws remain, it is a handsomely crafted device packed with plenty of wonderful features.

Feature packed, 5-megapixel camera, 3.5mm headphone jack, solid 2.8in display, TV-out;

A little on the costly side, slightly bulky, no car mount for GPS use;

Nokia N95 8GB review: Nokia N95 8GB

The Nokia N95 8GB is an updated version of the best-selling original N95 and while it's still rather chunky, there are a few serious changes to it that make it a significantly better mobile phone than its predecessor.

Upgraded mobile phones are usually disappointing, but the Nokia N95 8GB is a truly superb successor. The larger screen, 8GB on-board memory and black casing are so seductive, we were sad to see it go back to Nokia, but it's still pricey and it's still chunky

Larger colour screen; 8GB of memory; black casing.

A few bugs and crashes; high price.

I would like to thank Amy and Siobhan from WomWorld for sending me the N81 8GB and N95 phones for trialling for 2 weeks. I was shocked when I got 2 boxes via courier from them. We had some confusion about the shipments initially.. but all was for good !!

Nokia N95 8GB

I t has been quite some time since the Nokia N95 was put on the market. During the Mobile World Congress 2008 the successor was already announced: the Nokia N96 . In the meantime Nokia have put an 8GB version of the Nokia N95 on the market.

Nokia N95 8GB

Although some of the enhancements over its predecessor are minor, they make a big difference to the user experience and deliver a device that's better behaved and more primed for business than its predecessor.
