Nokia 4.2 review: Performance issues spoil another budget Nokia phone

With the introduction of Plus models and decimals, HMD Global's range of Nokia phones has taken on a somewhat bloated and hard to decipher form, far from the essential selection of handsets across various price points it started out as.

Build quality Like most Nokia phones, the 4.2 is well-made and seemingly built to last; Even though I may have preferred a more robust plastic chassis, the glass sandwich construction feels more premium than it probably should, Software and updates A clean, skin free OS thanks to Android One that...

Display Low quality and low brightness result in a sub-par viewing experience; Performance This thing is slow as hell and regularly suffered infuriating multi-second freezes; Camera A laggy camera app is compounded by poor autofocus and washed out images; Battery life Will get you through the day,...

Infinix s4 has proven popular in the markets where it is being sold. It certainly was very popular here on MobilityArena when launched. Up against it is a contender from an obviously more popular brand – Nokia.

The Nokia 4.2 has a release date and price

Back in February, HMD Global did its new annual tradition of revealing a whole flurry of Nokia-branded handsets. This year, and now the mid-range Nokia 4.2 has a US release date and price. It's available for pre-order today, and will begin shipping in two weeks' time on May 14, priced at $189.

Another fantastic phone from Nokia

Bought this for my Mum's birthday as a replacement for her old Nokia Windows Mobile phone, and it did not disappoint. It's light, the screen is huge and the design feels much more premium than you'd expect at this price.

Bluetooth and WiFi continually lose connectivity. Apps open rather slowly, imo. I can't really recommend it. Sending mine back.

Nokia 4.2 Review – Dipping Toes In The Mid-Range At A Budget Price

The Nokia 4.2 is a device that borders on the mid-range category in terms of both cost and features. Or at least that's what it does on paper. I recently had an opportunity to try that out for myself and what I discovered was a device that doesn't take itself too seriously - accomplishing that...

Battery can go for days with light use; 8 hours of screen-on time; Display brightness is good; even outdoors; Responsive screen that can aso aldapt to match ratios; 3.5mm audio jack; Decent camera for the price; in spite of caveats; Android One program means frequent updates are guaranteed; Strong...

Charging isn't fast at all; Speakers are too quiet; Bluetooth is inconsistent with audio devices; Only HD+ resolution; Slower UI/OS interactions are a constant "budget phone" reminder

Nokia 4.2

The Nokia 4.2 is very similar to the Nokia 3.2 , in fact, both devices carries similar design aesthetics and built. The Nokia 4.2 comes in a more compact size than the 3.2. It also provide a dual rear camera sensors and an Octa-core CPU instead of the single camera sensor and Quad-core CPU on the...

Nokia 4.2 review

The 4.2 has shown that Nokia can still produce good hardware, and combined with the slick user interface on Android One it provides an enjoyable user experience. This fully featured modern handset produces consistently solid performance, with above average cameras and impressive battery life.

A better than average phone

Out of the box this phone looks aesthetically pleasing, and feels good in my hand. It was easy to set up, and in under 5 minutes ready to use. Navigating the phone is a breeze, and apps are quick to load. Videos are a pleasure to watch, and the sound is also impressive.

Nokia 4.2 (2019) review

The Nokia 4.2 is a decent budget smartphone when it comes to the essential but it falls off hard if you expect anything more from it.

Appealing design; Plenty of features

Poor camera; Underwhelming performance
