This is probably going to be one of the most difficult reviews to write that I ever have written before. I had gotten extremely excited for this game once it was first announced, roughly a year and a half ago.

Explore a universe with your upgradeable spaceship. Uncover and communicate with other alien races. Engage in combat, trading, exploration and survival. Reach the centre of the galaxy. Available on PlayStation 4 and Windows.
Explore procedurally generated galaxy
Miminal gameplay depth – Lack of optimisation
And that's what we're kind of left with. An explanation that fits the product released. No Man's Sky is a missed opportunity to do something truly epic, and while the final game, when measured moment by moment, showed glimpses of something more than merely ordinary, the final result, was far less...
If you are into high graphic games like NFS, Battlefield, or FIFA. i would advice you to rethink before buying this game for PS4 unless you want to prank your friend on his birthday and piss him off everytime he opens this game on his console.
Vast sandbox to explore
Lacks captivating gameplay
This game is absolutely massive, and has a decent idea, unfortunately that's all that it has going for it. This game has quintillion planets randomly generated in the vastness of space.
I got this game recently for sheer curiosity after the hate-storm died down. I'm a big sandbox game player, so I was curious to how the game would play out. I can see where the overhype would kill it. The game is not amazing, but I'm enjoying it.
This game is to start off, not a horrible game. If this game seems as if it appeals to you, then it probably does; but it's gameplay is incredibly repetitive, and gets dull quickly. It's gameplay obviously can't be understood by two year olds, but is appropriate for all ages.
Exploring the infinitesimal universe is fun and fascinating, but it can be immensely annoying too. No Man's Sky does have the interplanetary space-faring magic it advertises, but how much it satisfies depends on whether you enjoy the arduous, cyclical churn of accumulate-create-migrate in exchange...
Fun to discover things for the first time; Infinite playground to explore; Unpredictable algorithm produces some hilarious surprises; Good expeditions to be had if the pre-generated conditions are right or favorable
Gameplay feels repetitive and hollow after a while; too simplistic for an open world of this scale, Farming can be tedious and will often interrupt enjoyment, Lacks substance and not compelling enough for long-term play, Bad menu designs and navigation
I have a whole universe in front of me and a million different opportunities at my fingertips; billions upon billions of planets await and I am unequivocally free to visit any one of them, do anything
Exploration is the best in any game I've played; Fluid transitions between flight and movement on land; Music complements the game really well
Repetitive by nature; Weak story; Sentinels can be annoying; Lack of storage in ship and exosuit
No Man's Sky is a game about overcoming expectations – both in terms of its gameplay and its creation. A craft-em-up set in space with a near-infinite number of planets to explore, mine, destroy and document, all in an effort to survive.
