Nikon Z7

Nikon introduced its brand new "Z system" after several weeks of speculation and online teasers. At launch, there are two cameras in the system, the Z7 and the Z6. Both use the same body design, but are equipped with slightly different internal specifications.

Our vision has always been to create cameras and lenses that capture more light. More light means more detail. More speed. More possibilities. The Z 7 brings that vision to life (and then some).

Nikon Z7

Let's start by addressing some of the main complaints that have been popping up on imaging websites around the world. As far as we can see, their validity depends upon whether they represent actual impediments to your own shooting pleasure and/or capabilities and if so, to what degree and whether...

An excellent camera

I typically shoot landscapes, historical locations, abstracts and architecture so I can't comment on the value of the Z7 for action oriented work. I have found the camera to be an excellent addition. I shoot both stills and video and my primary goal was to be able to do both with one system.

Half a decade ago, a new kid named Sony made up a game called "full-frame mirrorless," and has spent the last five years dunking on everybody else. At first, the cool kids thought this game was dumb and they were happy to let Sony play by itself.

Takes really nice photos; video quality is solid

Photos not as sharp as Sony; Focus isn't as good either

Is the Nikon Z7 the best camera ever made No. Is it perfect Nope. Are there things we'd change Yup. (Dual card slots, Vari-angle display, improve the still-photo AF, upgrade video capabilities, and lower the price.) Is it overpriced Probably. Do we love this camera Hell yeah, we do!

The distills (almost) everything we love about the into a smaller-yet-still-ergonomic body featuring the brand new 55mm Z-mount; 5-axis vibration reduction; and Nikon's best video autofocus ever.

Everyone's talking about the missing dual card slots -- unexpected at this price point; to be sure -- but we'd argue the Z7's main failings are found in the still-photo autofocus as well as pricing.

Nikon Z7 review

There’s no denying that the Nikon high-end Z7 is capable of incredible image quality. The new mount is an exciting prospect for a slew of new lenses we cannot wait to get our hands on the 58mm f/0.95. At £3399, it’s an investment for sure, but the image quality from the 45.7MP sensor, 493-point and super speedy AF system, we reckon the Z7 won’t disappoint. On top of that, you get 9fps burst shooting, an awesomely high-resolution 3.6-million dot display EVF and fast 60p refresh rates. And the only negative I can see at this stage is perhaps only having one card slot and the average battery. The chunkier-handed might struggle a tad with the tightly compact nature of the camera, specifically when reaching the function buttons at the front. But what’s really important? The fact that the Z7 is an all-round fantastic camera to use. That reassuring and comfortable grip means the Nikon Z7 fits in the hand like it belongs there and for those who already know and love their Nikon, it's probably the best choice. Coming so late to game means that the Sony arIII might have the edge in terms of price-point and battery life, but for photographers after a high resolution shooter, we’re almost certain that the Z7 would be a solid decision.

Stunning image quality ; Great EVF; Compatible with many other lenses ; Ergonomic and sturdy design ;

Expensive; Battery life isn't the best ; XQD cards will be impractical for some ;

Be careful!!!!

Two weeks after receiving my Z7 the LCD monitor stopped functioning. It's been sent back to the factory.
