Nikon Z7 review

With straight fives for features, build & handling and performance, the Nikon Z7 is an instant classic. It's a superb (and superbly made) mirrorless camera. With straight fives for features, build & handling and performance, the Nikon Z7 is an instant classic.

Very good handling; Great MP/fps balance; Sensor-based VR works well; Superb EVF

Single XQD card slot; Only three S lenses this year; Lenses are pricey on their own

Be careful!!!!

Two weeks after receiving my Z7 the LCD monitor stopped functioning. It's been sent back to the factory.

The new Nikon Z6 and Z7 are Nikon's brand-new full-frame mirrorless cameras , with a large electronic viewfinder, a 3.2inch tilting touch-screen, and the option of a 24mp or 45.7mp full-frame BSI CMOS sensor.

High-resolution 45.7mp sensor; More compact body than Nikon D850; Excellent image quality possible; Very low noise at low ISO speeds; High-quality 4K video without crop; Compact lenses available; 3.2inch tilting touch-screen; High-resolution electronic viewfinder; Built-in 5-axis image stabilisation

Price; Single XQD card slot; Short Battery life

Nikon Z7 review

There’s no denying that the Nikon high-end Z7 is capable of incredible image quality. The new mount is an exciting prospect for a slew of new lenses we cannot wait to get our hands on the 58mm f/0.95. At £3399, it’s an investment for sure, but the image quality from the 45.7MP sensor, 493-point and super speedy AF system, we reckon the Z7 won’t disappoint. On top of that, you get 9fps burst shooting, an awesomely high-resolution 3.6-million dot display EVF and fast 60p refresh rates. And the only negative I can see at this stage is perhaps only having one card slot and the average battery. The chunkier-handed might struggle a tad with the tightly compact nature of the camera, specifically when reaching the function buttons at the front. But what’s really important? The fact that the Z7 is an all-round fantastic camera to use. That reassuring and comfortable grip means the Nikon Z7 fits in the hand like it belongs there and for those who already know and love their Nikon, it's probably the best choice. Coming so late to game means that the Sony arIII might have the edge in terms of price-point and battery life, but for photographers after a high resolution shooter, we’re almost certain that the Z7 would be a solid decision.

Stunning image quality ; Great EVF; Compatible with many other lenses ; Ergonomic and sturdy design ;

Expensive; Battery life isn't the best ; XQD cards will be impractical for some ;

Nikon's Z7 and Z6 mirrorless cameras are a refined pleasure

Nikon may be very late to market with its pro and prosumer mirrorless cameras, but as far as I can tell from a few hours of shooting with the high-end Z7, Nikon's hits very close to the bullseye on the first try. The Z7 is basically a mirrorless adaptation of the excellent but burdensome Nikon D850, while the Z6 is an up-to-date prosumer full frame (the D610 and D750 are a bit old at this point).

After some hands-on time with NIkon's first full-frame mirrorless, we love it -- warts and all.

Nikon Z7 Review

The Nikon Z7 is an extremely well-rounded digital camera and suitable for a wide range of photographic and video needs. It packs outstanding image quality and very good 4K video in a lightweight, well-built package with in-body image stabilization. Autofocus is less reliable than the competition and the buffer can be limiting for fast action, but overall, the Z7 is a pleasure to shoot with.

Hybrid stills and video shooters, photographers looking for a versatile tool for a wide range of subjects in a compact package.;

Those needing class-leading autofocus performance, faster burst rates, or greater buffer depth.;
