Quite like this little powerhouse! What first impressed me was the size. It's quite small for a speed light. It's not as powerful as its big brothers, but that isn't really a bad thing. It beats using the pop up flash by a mile (stronger, tiltable, and can be rotated).

Speedlight worth the money

This flash is amazing. Swivel head allows fantastic lighting for photos.

Nikon SB-500 Review

Nikon SB-500 on included AS-23 stand (rated GN 79'/24m, measured 3 second recycling at full power, 9.8 oz./279g with 2-AA alkaline or Ni-MH cells, about $247 ). I got mine at Adorama ; I'd also get it at Amazon or at B&H .

I've yet to get my hands on one of these speedlights but I am eager to do so. Their compact size and the addition of an LED front light are both likely to win favor with customers.

Very useful addition to my P7800

First use was fill-in flash for 'informals' at a wedding. Performed faultlessly with a P7800.

Easy To Pack; Easy to Use; Lightweight; Perfect For Fill-in Flash; Reliable; Strong Construction

A nice light travel speed light

This is a nice, light, capable speed light. Reasonably powerful and 1/2 the weight of a SB-900/910, the size also makes it easy to carry along, even in a pocket. There are some limitations that you need to recognize, especially if using as a master or commander with an older Nikon camera, but as an...

Nikon SB-500 Review

The Nikon SB-500 speedlight was announced in September of 2014 together with the Nikon D750 and Nikkor 20mm f/1.8G lens. Sitting above the compact SB-300 and below the larger and more powerful SB-700, the SB-500 is targeted at beginners and enthusiasts, who want something more capable than a...

Little powerhouse

Perfect size for travel and use of two AA batteries makes it universal. Versatile and plenty of power. Off-camera control via CLS is a breeze -- albeit only channel 3 (strange - the SB-600 initally defaults to channel 3 also). I am sad it can not be used as a commander -- except on D750 and D810.
