Nikon Nikkor Z 85mm F1.2 S Review

The Nikon Nikkor Z 85mm F1.2 S ($2,799.95) is a big, bulky lens with a very bright aperture that allows it to isolate subjects better than most primes. Its short telephoto focal length makes it ideal for portraits, while full weather protection means you can take it out into the world without worry. Yes, it's heavy and expensive compared with the excellent Nikkor Z 85mm F1.8 S ($799.95), but we still recommend the F1.2 edition to professionals (especially wedding photographers) thanks to its gorgeous rendering and superior light-gathering ability.F1.2 Optics Make for a Heavy Lens Like most lenses with an F1.2 aperture, the Nikkor Z 85mm F1.2 S is hefty. But that's to be expected since F1.2 optics gather about a third more light than F1.4 alternatives. The brighter aperture is a serious advantage for work in low light and enables images with an exceptionally shallow depth of field. If you're working in the studio, you won't mind the 5.6-by-4.0-inch (HD) barrel and 2.6-pound car...

The Nikon Nikkor Z 85mm F1.2 S lens offers a portrait-perfect focal length and gathers more light than a typical prime for exceptionally smooth backgrounds.
