Nikon Micro Nikkor 85mm f/3.5G ED VR: Vibration Reduction In A Macro Lens
The 85mm VR Micro Nikkor ($529.95, MSRP) benefits from next-generation VR II technology and is stated to deliver usable results at up to four steps below the optimum shutter speed. Keep in mind that we're dealing with a DX-dedicated lens for an APS-C sensor camera (like my D300).

Great camera but takes some getting use to.
I have had this little beauty for about 6 months(bought it at Best Buy, great deal) and have shot several hundred picts. I also bought the SB 900 flash at the same time & I am still learning to operate both and as usual, make a lot of errors.
Pros:
- 12+ mp & Nikon quality
Cons:
- User manual

Nikon AF-S DX Micro-Nikkor 85mm f/3.5G ED VR
The Nikon AF-S DX Micro-Nikkor 85mm f3.5G ED VR is a very compact and lightweight macro lens for Nikon DX digital SLR cameras, which also comes at a competitive price. Because of its focal length and angle of view, it doubles as a portrait lens too – despite the slow-ish maximum aperture of f/3.5.

Incredible!
This is a must have lense! Tack sharp and manual focus overide in M/A mode is very useful! Also a great portrait/general purpose lense.

Lens Test: Nikon 85mm F/3.5G ED DX AF-S VR Nikkor
;This is Nikon's first 1:1 Micro Nikkor in the DX (APS-C) format. With a street price of $500, it offers D3000, D500, D300, and D90 shooters true close-ups--with Vibration Reduction II--at a much lower cost than Nikon's other VR macro, the $890, full-frame, 105mm f/2.8G.

Cheap body, great lens!
Just got the lens today and shot a few dozen macro shots and about 15 or 20 portraits. I love the optics! The body is pretty cheaply made, but the glass is excellent. Good weight as well.
Pros:
- Great picture quality
- Lightweight
