Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR Review
The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR lens entices buyers with a long zoom range, but image quality at the telephoto end is lacking. The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR ($699.95) dangles the promise of an extremely long zoom range in front of photographers, making it appealing to shutterbugs looking to minimize lens changes or pack light for a vacation. Its build quality is solid, as you'd expect from Nikon, but its asking price is on the high side and image quality is very disappointing when zoomed past 200mm. It'd be a little easier to recommend at a lower price, but at $700 it's not too much of a stretch to opt for Nikon's pricier, far superior AF-S DX Nikkor 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR instead. Design The 18-300mm follows the design paradigm of every other modern Nikkor zoom. Its barrel is black polycarbonate with gold accents, and both the zoom ring and manual focus ring have a textured finish. The lens measures 3.9 by 3.1 inches (HD), weighs 1.2 pounds, and supports 67mm front filters. It's smaller than the pricier 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G, which comes in at 4.7 by 3.3 inches, weighs 1.8 pounds, a...- Long 16.7x zoom range
- Optical stabilization
- 1:3 macro magnification
- Relatively light and compact
- Distortion throughout range
- Weak edge and telephoto performance
- Hood not included
Used lens
While the lens itself has great reviews I can't support buying it from Walmart or their supplier. The box came heavily damaged without any packing support to keep it from bouncing around inside the outer cardboard box.
Great lens but at a hefty 50% premium compared to other Nikon and Canon tilt shift lenses
Finally Nikon provided a tilt shift lens that enables the user to change the orientation in the field depending upon its use for architectural or landscape photography. Canon has provided this feature for all of its tilt shift lenses since 2009 so it is great that Nikon is at least providing it with...
Perfect multi unctions lens!
Such a great lens for near and far! Was tired of trading out lenses and love this!
Nikon AF-S DX 18-300 F3.5-6.3G ED VR Lens JAA821DA review
There is definitely a wide array of options in the travel zoom department, but it comes down to the age-old concession between image quality and convenience. The performance you get out of the Nikon, or any travel zoom, at its extreme telephoto range, is not going to be comparable to any dedicated...
REVIEW: Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G Review
This super-zoom lens for Nikon DX format DSLRs covers a huge 16.7x zoom range, equivalent to 27-450mm on a 35mm camera. It sports internal focusing, and Nikon's Vibration Reduction system.
Nikon AF-S DX 18-300 F3.5-6.3G ED VR Lens JAA821DA review
The Nikkor AF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED VR II is a hot seller already but the competition has been pushing the zoom ratio further than that already. However, Nikon wouldn't be Nikon to leave the situation as is so they came up with the Nikkor AF-S 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED VR (16.7x zoom ratio) - a...
Nikon Nikkor AF-S DX 18-300 mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR
The test results of the Nikkor AF-S DX 18–300 mm f/3.5–5.6G ED VR were just average and didn't impress us; I suppose they could be the main reason of a speedy launch of another model with similar parameters but more affordable price. Let's check what the new Nikkor 18-300 mm has to offer.- very useful focal range
- good resolution in the frame centre at all focal lengths
- proper correction of coma at longer focal lengths
- moderate vignetting at longer focal lengths
- slight astigmatism at longer focal lengths
- good performance against bright light
- quite silent and accurate autofocus,...
- weak image quality on the edge of the frame at all focal lengths
- high lateral chromatic aberration near the maximum relative aperture of 200-300 mm focal lengths
- significant barrel distortion at the wide angle and distinct pincushion in the 35-100 mm focal range
- modest standard accessory kit
The world is full of amazing views-some right in front of us, others far in the distance. Capture all of them beautifully with a single lens, the outstanding all-in-one telephoto zoom AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR.
