Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED

The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED ($1,080 direct) delivers the widest angle of any zoom lens for Nikon's APS-C D-SLR camera system. It delivers a field of view that's equal to a 15-36mm lens in traditional 35mm photography.
Pros:
  • Ultra-wide field of view
  • 2.4x zoom ratio
  • Excellent center sharpness
Cons:
  • Pricey
  • Image quality suffers at the edges of the frame
  • Noticeable distortion at 10mm

Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED Review

If you're a fan of an ultra-wide perspective, the Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED lens delivers, but you'll need to narrow its aperture to improve edge sharpness. Shooting at a 15mm angle isn't for everyone, but if you're a fan of an ultra-wide perspective, it's a lens to consider adding to your Nikon kit. The lens is impressively sharp in the center, but it's not perfect; the edges suffer unless you narrow the aperture, and there's quite a bit of barrel distortion at the 10mm focal length. Also, it's on the pricey side if you're the type of photographer who doesn't often shoot wide. There's no quibbling with the build quality. It's as solid as other modern Nikkor lenses with a metal lens mount and a tough polycarbonate barrel, with rubberized rings for manual focus and zoom adjustment. The 10-24mm itself is rather squat and wide, measuring about 3.4 by 3.3 inches (HD). It weighs in at just over a pound and...

Moderate.
Cons:
  • The exorbitant price made this lens unpopular, enthusiasts going behind Tamron or Sigma
  • I am fine with this lens which I borrowed from my friend for testing, went well
  • I am not planning to go Nikkor 12-24, price factor

Over priced Chinese made Nikon lens, I hope I never drop it. Easy to use, quite reasonable image quality seen so far.

The Nikon name and longevity convinced me to buy this lens over a 3rd party one, I expect Nikon to have ability and spares over long period to fix this lens if it ever has a problem. Good wide angle range and image quality is good over the entire range.
Pros:
  • Easy to use
  • Compact
Cons:
  • Build quality

Nikkor AF-S DX 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED - Review / Test Report

Six years later now Nikon surprised us with another wide angle zoom, the Nikkor AF-S DX 10-24/3.5-4.5, slightly extended in range at the wide end, but no longer a constant aperture zoom.

REVIEW: Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED Lens

This ultra-wide angle zoom lens for Nikon DX format SLRs costs around £670 and sports fast silent internal focusing with full time manual override. At only 460g, it is a quite a lightweight lens too and it balances perfectly on the Nikon D300 body used for testing.

Back in 2004, Nikon pioneered the DX lens concept; that is, lenses specially designed for the smaller DX-format sensor (16×24mm), popular for digital SLRs. Since their image circles do not need to cover the entire traditional 35mm film area (24×36mm), these DX lenses are less expensive to produce...

Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED Lens AFS10-24 F3.5-4.5 review

Nikon has done well with its new ultra-wide angle zoom lens: it's a sharp lens, with corners that don't get significantly soft. CA performance is good, probably excellent on a D3, D300 or other Nikon body that employs CA reduction.
