Jack of all trades; master of most

I bought this after some soul searching, and with the WEX 28 day money back guarantee in mind. I had a Nikon D70 and bought the 18-200 VR for it. The resultant combination eight years ago gave me an ideal, flexible combo for travel photography.
Pros:
  • Durable
  • Great Features
  • Great Picture Quality
  • Versatile
Cons:
  • Heavy Bulky

Nikkor 28-300mm fx, VRII lens

I use the lens on my Nikon D800 camera. When I first purchased the camera I also included the 50mm, f1.4 prime lens which I used extensively. All my other lenses are DX lenses which significantly reduce the censor's area.
Pros:
  • Easily Interchangeable
  • Fast / accurate auto-focus
  • Nice Bokeh
  • Rugged
  • Strong Construction
Cons:
  • Heavy

Great lens for a great camera

I bought this lens when I upgraded from a D90 to the D800 a few months ago. I had been using the 70-300 lens on my D90, and loved it. I researched a lot before buying this lens, and had some concerns about distortion, but decided to buy it for the versatility -- and at the time I did not have a...

Nikon AF-S Nikkor 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Review

The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR is a sharp, compact walkaround lens, but it shows quite a lot of distortion throughout its zoom range. The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR ($1,049.95 direct)($946.95 at Amazon) is a zoom lens with an impressive 10.7x range, designed for use with full-frame Nikon cameras. It doesn't manage the fixed aperture of the company's pro-level zooms, but if you're looking for a fairly compact all-in-one zoom for travel or hiking, it's an appealing choice. The lens leaves very little to want in terms of sharpness, but distortion is an issue throughout its range. That's not atypical for a zoom of this range, especially one that manages to be fairly compact and cover a 24 x 36mm image sensor. The 28-300mm measures 4.5 by 3.3 inches (HD), but does extend when zoomed. It's a bit heavy at 1.8 pounds, and its big front element requires 77mm filters. A reversible lens hood is included. There are a couple of control switches on the barrel: One toggles the Vibration Reduction system, the other switches between manual and autofocus. The manual focus ring is located toward the base of the le...

Wow. Super sharp bag of lenses killer.

I have debated in agony about putting down 1K plus on this lens. I wish I would not have waited so long. It is a fantastic upgrade to my kit lens 18-105 VR. After taking 8000 pictures on my D7000 I realized I was using the wide portion of the kit lens only about 1% of the time.
Pros:
  • Super Sharp
Cons:
  • Over a grand most of the time and hard to find

This could be your only FX Lens

"I bought this for my D800. A great starting point. It really covers almost any lens you may need, although I do have 6 impressive FX lenses, for special occasions. If you want to leave with only one lens, this or the 50mm 1.4 are my favorite choices.
