awesome lens

"this is the new Nikon prime lens, first thing first, this lens is sharp, period. the quality and build of this lens is really good, this lens is fast which is great for low light and the focus speed is also really good. I bought it when it came out and I love it."

Meet the new standard by which all short telephoto lenses will be measured against, the world's first* full-frame 105mm with an f/1.4 aperture. A marvel of optical precision, distortion correction and craftsmanship.

Great lens optically but not the best built

I have owned the Nikkor 105mm f/1.4e for a couple of years and for most things it is a great lens. Optically it is very good and can easily be used at f/1.4. Compared to my Zeiss 85mmf 1.4 Milvus the lenses are quite comparable, though the Zeiss has a little better micro contrast.

Great Picture Quality; Light compared to the Sigma 105mm f/1.4 art; Reliable autofocus

Cats eyes at f/1.4; Not the most solid feeling lens

Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/1.4E ED Lens JAA343DA review

The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 105mm f/1.4E ED is one of the sharpest lenses we've tested, and sure to be the darling of portrait photographers and bokeh fiends.

Extremely sharp; Unique 105mm f/1.4 design; Handles diffraction well; Minimal distortion; Full-frame coverage.

Expensive; Heavy; Omits image stabilization; Corners dim at wide apertures.

Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/1.4E ED Lens JAA343DA review

This is one of those lenses that costs a lot of money, but lives up to its price tag: its optical quality is outstanding. We've reviewed fast prime lenses in the past that don't hit their stride until they've stopped down significantly.

Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/1.4E ED Lens - BRAND NEW review

Testing the Nikkor AF-S 105 mm f/1.4E ED was a real pleasure. It combines interesting parameters, exceedingly sharp optics hidden in a casing of good quality and accurate autofocus. I admit that for me personally the Nikkor was a huge joy to use.

solid, compact and sealed casing,, interesting, unique parameters,, sensational image quality in the frame centre,, very good image quality on the edge of the APS-C/DX sensor,, good image quality on the edge of full frame,, negligible lateral chromatic aberration,, vestigial spherical aberration,,...

a bit too high level of longitudinal chromatic aberration,, performance against bright light could have been better,, significant vignetting on full frame detector.

Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/1.4E ED Lens - Brand New review

While the slightly unusual focal length is a tad too long for serious landscape work, it offers a wealth of possibilities, from street to portrait or wedding and event photography, allowing you to get close to your subjects, or frame more than a traditional 35mm.
