Overall, an excellent lens.

Some years ago, I had a Nikkor 70-300mm lens for my Nikon D80. It was a great lens, but weighed a ton, barely fit into almost any bag if attached to the camera. After a few months I sold it. This new lens is a whole other story.

Lightweight and size; Nice sharp photographs

Like with any long zoom lens; a bit slow on the aperture side of things

I like this lens

I like this lens. It is quite sharp, VR is surprisingly good. The rear lens cap was a polythene slip instead of a Nikon cap. At that price you can't expect everything.

Excellent low-cost telephoto zoom

I got this lens about a year ago for a Nikon D5300. So far I am very satisfied with this lens. The good: - sharp, fast and quiet autofocus - lightweight and reasonably compact for a 70-300 zoom. - good price Why I'm not giving it 5 stars: - plastic mount. - no lens hood included.

Nikon AF-P DX Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR

If your budget is more flexible you can nab a telezoom with a bit more reach. We like the Sigma 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary as a light zoom with compatibility for both DX and full-frame (FX) cameras.

Light and compact; Long telephoto reach; Effective image stabilization; Good image quality; Quiet, smooth autofocus; Affordable

Narrow aperture; Not great for manual focus; Some distortion when zoomed; Modest vignette; Loses some resolution at the long end

I bought this lens together with a Tamron SP 70-300mm Di VC USD A005 lens and compared them over the period of one month back and forth. I especially used the Tamron for comparison because it was at that time at around the same price point (around 350 Euro).

The lens\'s auto focus is very quick and absolutely silent; On my then used Nikon D3300 it was very precise and caught the right focus even in relatively dim lighting; The vibration reduction is also quite accurate; The lens\'s sweet spot is at 135mm, where it is very sharp even wide open

Once it gets really dark the lens\'s small aperture was a problem for my D3300 though and focus could not be achieved; Overall, besides being accurate, the vibration reduction was a bit too nervous for me, sometimes jumping here and there and grabbing on the wrong subject.

New Nikon AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR Lens Black review

As a beginner DSLR user, I bought this lens to be able to take sport pictures. I tested it out on some surfers at Bells Beach and was really really pleased with the quality of the shots.
