Excellent glass, high transmittance and sharpness

One stellar fact about this lens is that it's T-stop value is t/1.8. Due to the phenomenal optical design correcting aberrations with a mathematically optimal number of elements via a fast rear-focusing breakthrough, this lens is within 1/3rd of a stop as bright compared to both of the Nikon f/1.4...

Another great Nikkor prime

I have a couple of zooms that cover this range but I wanted a prime for people and pet photos. This lens fills the bill with more speed and IQ than the zooms and is compact in size.

Consistent Output; Easily Interchangeable; Fast / accurate auto-focus; Lightweight; Made in Japan; Nice Bokeh; Strong Construction

Nikon 85mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor

While I hope to create a full Nikon 85mm f/1.8D AF Lens, my first priority is to include results from this lens in the lens comparison tools available on the site. This page currently exists because it is required by the database and content management systems for me to post information and standard...

Nikon 85mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor review by Chop

Super portrait lens. Very sharp and great Bokeh. Fast enough and a pleasure to use. I pull this for use on my F100 with slow film.

Great Portraits and balance between cost and quality

Some guys like a little longer option

Nikon offers the 85mm f/1.4 D AF (£897) and the newer 85mm f/1.4 G AF-S. The 85mm f/1.8D AF was launched in ‘94 and its design does look older than its rivals. Designed for Nikon D-SLRs that use the FX mount, it's also compatible with DX cameras such as the D7000 and offers an equivalent of 127.5mm...
