Nikon AF Nikkor 85mm f/1.8D Lens Review

★★★★★
Verdict: Nikon AF Nikkor 85mm f/1.8D, first introduced in 1994, is one of two 85mm primes in Nikon's modern lens lineup (the other one being AF Nikkor 85mm f/1.4D). The lens, along with its faster f/1.4 cousin, has gone through four (five if we count the specialized 80mm f/2 variant) revisions and was...

★★★★★ 4.6
Verdict: This is certainly a fantastic write-up.
Pros: This compact, affordable 85mm prime lens is an excellent choice for portrait photography and HD video recording. Its fast f/1.8 maximum aperture with manual control offers outstanding low-light performance, natural background blur and smooth aperture adjustments during Live View shooting.

Nikon Nikkor AF 85mm F1.8D

★★★★★
Verdict: Nikon offers the 85mm f/1.4 D AF (£897) and the newer 85mm f/1.4 G AF-S. The 85mm f/1.8D AF was launched in ‘94 and its design does look older than its rivals. Designed for Nikon D-SLRs that use the FX mount, it's also compatible with DX cameras such as the D7000 and offers an equivalent of 127.5mm...

Nikon 85mm f/1.8D AF Lens

★★★★★
Verdict: While I hope to create a full Nikon 85mm f/1.8D AF Lens, my first priority is to include results from this lens in the lens comparison tools available on the site. This page currently exists because it is required by the database and content management systems for me to post information and standard...

Nikkor AF 85mm f/1.8 D - Review / Test Report

★★★★ 4.4
Verdict: The Nikkor AF 85mm f/1.8 D was a very boring lens during the tests simply because it showed a exceptional performance in all tested categories. Besides the lab results the lens shows a beautiful bokeh (out-of-focus blur).

One of Nikons best lenses also for digital cameras 800D but keep aperture ...

★★★★★ 5.0
Verdict: One of Nikons best lenses also for digital cameras 800D but keep aperture not higher than 5.6-8. It is mechanically much better than its plastic successor and almost as good optically.

Nikon 85mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor

★★★★★ 5.0
Verdict: This lens takes an impressive image for not much $. Is only 1/2 stop slower than the 1.4D for less than 1/2 the bux. For my glamour portraiture usage, I have some sample images by this lens and a comparison to several of its peers avail in a more detailed review @...
Pros: Price, Size, Sharpness
Cons: 62mm Filter Size, No Bayonet Shade

Solid Quality

★★★★★ 5.0
Verdict: Excellent shallow depth of field at full open aperture. Very Sharp. Better value and I suspect higher quality of construction than latest version but only consider if your camera can drive the focus system for autofocus. Very impressed with this lens. Good optical quality and solid construction.
Pros: Strong Construction
Cons: No bayonet for lens hood

Very amazing lens for the price!!!

★★★★★ 5.0
Verdict: Very nice 85 1.8 prime lens at a great price (versus the 85 1.4 which is much much costlier). Does really well with portraits in all types of lighting. Have also used it for various outdoor applications as well as food photography which comes out very crisp and having the 1.8 aperture makes food...

Great little lens

★★★★★ 5.0
Verdict: I love this lens, debated for a bit whether to get the 1.4. but after buying this one I have no regrets. Since I rarely shoot wide open, the 1.4 did not seem to make sense. The lens is very sharp and feels well built.
Pros: small light, sharp, good price
Cons: n/a

Prisvärt porträttobjektiv

★★★★ 4.0

Sharp portrait lens, perfect bokeh.

★★★★★ 5.0
Verdict: Over all, This is a fantastic lens with beautiful clarity and sharpness and super perfect bokeh. It is by far the sharpest lens I own. I bought it for my D80 and it worked perfectly. However, shortly after I bought a D3300, and didnt think about the fact that this lens would not work with it.

beautiful lens, sharp and with wonderful bokeh. just a bit heavy but solid!

★★★★★ 5.0
Verdict: it's a great lens, very sharp from f/6.3 down to f/11 (as far as I've seen) autofocus is fast and just a bit noisier than the latest G lenses. the bokeh is beautiful. the only disadvantage is the weight, but also gives the feeling of a sturdy and resistant item. I'm very satisfied.

Indoor sports with no flash!

★★★★★ 5.0
Verdict: I wanted to take my own pictures at my 2 daughters gymnastics competitions. Most gyms have very poor lighting and flash is not allowed. My Nikon f/4.5 zoom lens gave me decent pictures at max ISO with exposure compensated to +5.0 from my D90 but I needed faster shutter speed to get rid of slight...
Pros: Fast / accurate auto-focus, Great Range, Lightweight

Another great Nikkor prime

★★★★★ 5.0
Verdict: I have a couple of zooms that cover this range but I wanted a prime for people and pet photos. This lens fills the bill with more speed and IQ than the zooms and is compact in size.
Pros: Consistent Output, Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight, Made in Japan, Nice Bokeh, Strong Construction
Cons: NONE

Excellent glass, high transmittance and sharpness

★★★★★ 5.0
Verdict: One stellar fact about this lens is that it's T-stop value is t/1.8. Due to the phenomenal optical design correcting aberrations with a mathematically optimal number of elements via a fast rear-focusing breakthrough, this lens is within 1/3rd of a stop as bright compared to both of the Nikon f/1.4...

I got a helluva deal!

★★★★★ 5.0
Verdict: I own a D90, which is my fourth Nikon but my first DSLR. While killing time in a pawn shop I spotted an N8008 in great condition. My eyes popped out when I saw this lens attached. I checked to see if it focused, and bought it. The camera works perfectly.

One of the best values among Nikkors

★★★★ 4.0
Verdict: I've used both the 1.4 and the 1.8 versions of Nikon's 85mm, and for approximately half the price, the 1.8 version represents one of the best values in the Nikkor family. It actually focuses faster due to the smaller elements involved.
Pros: Consistent Output, Easily Interchangeable, Lightweight, Quick Focus, Sharp Focus
Cons: No built in motor, Plastic construction

Nikon Nikkor 85MM F/1.8D Af Lens Review

★★★★★ 5.0
Verdict: I got a Nikon D200 in 2007, with a 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 kit lens. I had decided to take photos of live music, mainly rock bands as I had access to my local venue. However, it soon become apparent that although the 18-135mm lens is a good lens, it didn''t let in enough light, especially when fully...
Pros: great in dim light wonderful if you don''t want to use a flash fantastic price takes great portrait shots
Cons: Nothing really

Nikon Nikkor AF 85mm F1.8D

★★★★★ 5.0
Verdict: This lens, I like. I like a lot. Photozone did a lab test on this lens and the 1.4D. This lens outperforms the 1.4D in distortion, resolution, chromatic abberations and vignetting from each of their respective widest openings to F11. Check it out.
Pros: Sharpness, Contrast, Weight and a Fast lens. What more
Cons: None really noted
