Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8D ED AF Nikkor review by dugong5pm
this is the "budget" pro-telezoom. one of the best indeed. The first thing that crossed your mind will be the build quality of the lens. The lens is a solid metal, that looks like a real pro lens. The design is so simple and very comfortable to use.
Pros:
- built like a tank
- IQ
- ergonomics
Cons:
- none

Solid and reliable work horse that delivers the goods!
The 80-200 f2.8D is a great solid reliable and high performance lens. It is optically comparable to the first series 70-200 f2.8 VR, so the decision comes down to your need for image stabilization and instant manual focus overide.

Awesome
This is a great lens. Sure it is heavy, but that is why I bought a monopod. Great results! I take it with me when I go on walks along the river. I use it at weddings to get "the shot" without being seen. I have used it my son's basketball games and will use it during baseball this summer.
Pros:
- Consistent Output
- Durable
- Easily Interchangeable
- Rugged
- Strong Construction
Cons:
- Heavy

Love this lens, sharp @ f/2.8, great bokeh, accurate AF. Great value. Would love the AF-S version which is meant to be better but cannot justify the significant additional investment for just faster AF.
Pros:
- Lovely optics
- build quality
Cons:
- AF's not a rocket ship
- but on a D300 no slouch either! That's all mind

This is the s***! I've had a Canon EF 80-200/2.8L and a Sigma EX 70-200/2.8 HSM previous to this lens and it kicks the other lenses butts. Hard. It's sharp, it's fast and it's built like a Abrams M1 tank. What more could you ask for The A/M-ring is made of plastic and is easy to break.
Pros:
- Sharp
- fast
- color rendering (is that the correct expression
Cons:
- Plastic A/M-ring

I bought this lens to use at the rink for Hockey and Figure Skating. The results are really impressive. Hand holding this baby is a bit hit and miss, you really need a monopod. The auto focus is fast and the images are sharp. If you want to get professional results this lens is a must have.
