Nikon 24mm f/2.8D AF Lens

While I hope to create a full Nikon 24mm f/2.8D AF Lens, my first priority is to include results from this lens in the lens comparison tools available on the site. This page currently exists because it is required by the database and content management systems for me to post information and standard...

AF 24 mm f/2.8D

Originally posted 2006-12-27 on Optyczne.pl After the launch of cameras equipped with APS-C/DX class sensors, it got rather quiet around 24 mm devices. Perhaps the silence was a bit undeserved. On full frame such instruments provide a quite wide angle of view, equal of as many as 84 degrees.

weak image quality on the edge of the frame; visible chromatic aberration; high coma

Nikkor AF 24mm f/2.8D - Review / Test Report

The Nikkor AF 24mm f/2.8D didn't really convince during the tests due to various shortcomings. The resolution figures were generally very decent and there's only a slight degree of barrel distortions. However, the lens shows very high vignetting at f/2.8 and very pronounced CAs.

Perfection

First, I almost exclusively use my lenses for cinematography. My current set up is a Panasonic LUMIX GH4, with a Metabones Speedbooster XL - Nikon to M43. With that said, this 24mm lens Really has a focal length/width of a 36mm because I have a 1.5x crop factor.

Fast wide angle at a decent price This is your lens. I got this glass when I purchased my first modern film camera (Nikon F80), the salesperson who was helping me at the store said that this was the best for a 'normal' lens for the camera, and he was right.

* Sharp Lens; * Great for a Film body; * Fast Autofocus; * Fast Wide Angle Lens

* Doesn't do well on a digital body

Great lens

We use this lens on a PB-4 Nikon Bellows and it delivers sharp photos in the reversed position. Also mounted it on my D750 and it is a sharp walk around lens as long as you let your feet be the zoom. Overall, I am well pleased.

Nikon 24mm f/2.8D AF Nikkor review by rcoder

I bought this lens used a few weeks ago specifically for street photography, and have been pretty happy with the results. On a cropped digital body like by D70, the 24mm focal length is only mildly "wide", works well for candid and from-the-hip shots.

compact; good view angle on a digital body; perfect "street" lens

prone to flare; f/2.8 aperture not as fast as many other primes

Great on FX - avoid on DX

I bought this lens thinking that it would be nice and sharp on my DX machine. I own both an FX body (D810) and DX (D7000). On the FX it's not a bad lens all round. It's sharp, the CA is very low.

Easily Interchangeable; Lightweight

Optics better for FX format

A must have!

I think it was Foreigner that said 'I wanna know what love is' Well my amigo, love comes in the form of this small and lightweight 24mm lens! This sexy little mama produces a nectar so sweet and addictive that I will be forever faithful and think of Sinead O'Connor when she sang 'Nothing compares 2...

nice sharp light

This may be one of Nikon's sharpest lenses. Set yourself free from the weight of pro-grade zooms! Everyone should spend a day walking around with this lense to see what it can feel like to lose the weight and keep the sharpness!
