A workhorse. Simple, yet smart.
Think of entry level D SLRs, think of D 70. The advanced D70s is indeed a better one. Not available any more from stores but in E Bay at reasonable cost.

Nikon D70 review by andre_
I bought the D70 to have a backup of my two D2x during work. The image quality is fine until 400ISO, but it decrease over, where the dinamic range is not enough in comparison with every newest camera.
Pros:
- weight
- noise
Cons:
- viewfinder
- ISO over 400
- viewfinder..

Outsatnding performer among its peers.

Pros:
- Comfortable Controls
- Strong Construction

The 6.1Mp Nikon D70 is at the forefront of the digital SLR revolution for the photo enthusiast. Nikon digital SLRs differ from fixed lens digital cameras in a number of ways. The most obvious is the fact that you can use existing lenses that fit Nikon cameras - both film and digital.
Pros:
- Compatible with Nikon lenses
Cons:
- Nothing major

Exclusive : Nikon D70 Digital SLR Review
Here comes the Nikon D70 competitively priced to challenge the Canon EOS-300D DIGITAL. Boasting a 6.1 megapixel Nikon DX format image sensor, 3 fps burst shooting, instant start-up, as well as seven Digital Vari-Program modes, this is but just the tip of the ice berg that might just sink the...

The D70, announced on 28th January 2004 is Nikon's answer to the new sub-$1,000 digital SLR market, its clear competition being the Canon EOS 300D (Digital Rebel) announced last August.
Pros:
- Excellent resolution and sharpness
- seems better than EOS 300D / EOS 10D
- Neutral color balance
- 'Nikon like' (tuned towards skin tones
- Good clean sharpening algorithm leaves almost no 'halo' artifacts
- Low noise even at high sensitivities
- more monochromatic (film like
- Excellent image parameter
Cons:
- Moiré / maze artifact pattern visible in certain images at the limit of resolution
- Bug which incorrectly tags images as Adobe RGB (we expect a firmware fix
- Vignetting / lens shading on the AF-S DX 18-70mm lens at 18 mm
- F3.5
- Still a very average automatic white balance performance
- we expected

Nikon D70 Experience Report
1. Never talk about a camera being sharp or not. Always look the camera/lens combination. With the AF-S 28-70mm f/2.8 the D70 performs very well.

Nikon D70
8. Summing Up Nikon D70 has up to now been an interesting experience. The camera is inobtrusive, small and light-weight, yet a very capable performer. You do have to gear your attitude and working habits to embrace the possibilites supported by the camera, and not let the annoyance of all those...
