Brilliant beyond words. A major leap forward from the D4. I used it primarily for wildlife and motorsports and there's simply no equal to how it functions. Sensors do an amazing job in tracking subjects allowing for some amazing shots that weren't possible before.

At first the D5 looks and feel like a D4 - or a D3, D2 etc, but in reality the D5 is from a whole different generation. The latest autofocus is extraordinary. In 3D continuous mode, I'm getting a rejection rate of about 1% shooting sports with a 300mm f4 PF ED attached!

It's no mistake that both Nikon D5 and Canon EOS 1D X Mark II have arrived in 2016. It's an Olympic year after all, with pro sports photographers seeking next-level kit to take next-level images in Rio.

Let's not sugarcoat it; the D5 is a niche camera. Even if you've got the cash to splash, it doesn't mean you should - it makes sense in the hands of a pro photographer, but beginners will be lost.

What the hey; 4K; Where's the Wi-Fi

The D5 is Nikon's latest flagship professional DSLR, sitting right at the top of its line-up and representing an upgrade from 2014's D4S. It's no surprise to see Nikon announcing a new camera in this year with big sporting tournaments, especially the Olympics, on the horizon.

In November 2015 Nikon announced that the D5 was in development to replace the D4S, the company's flagship SLR aimed at professional photojournalists and sports photographers. With the Olympic games arriving this summer it was odds-on that we'd see something concrete at CE in January, and sure...

The 5D is aimed at pros and delivers a performance that won't disappoint them. With improvements to just about every aspect of the D4s, it's a flagship model that demands respect.

Having worked through the D range from the D2 onwards, I stuck with the D3X through the D4 as there wasn't enough of a jump to justify the upgrade, but the D5 is definitely worth it.

The D3 / D3S was a game changer. The D4 / D4s gave me better AF and better resolution. The D5 has better AF, resolution and ISO, 1.5 stops better than my D4. Looking forward to the firmware upgrade I recommend going for the XQD version, for the speed
