The Nikon Coolpix S1000pj is a decent point & shoot camera with a neat trick up its sleeve: a built in projector.

It only seems like yesterday that so-called 'Pico' projectors, battery-powered and pocketable, first arrived on the scene. Battery-friendly LED illumination and successful miniaturisation of projector imaging components made Pico projectors a reality and now Nikon has incorporated this projector...

Nikon Coolpix S1000pj
At a time when all – or almost all – compacts have a 5x zoom, a 12 Mpx sensor, a 6.9 cm (2.7") or 7.6 cm (3") display screen, and similar size and cost, it's getting hard
Pros:
- Original concept –video projector
- Clear interface and menus
- Comes with remote control
Cons:
- Disappointing image quality
- lacks sharpness and sensitivity, Video is low-definition
- no optical zoom in video mode, Looks a little clunky
- build quality could be better, Poor display resolution, narrow viewing angles, Lens lacks brightness (maximum f/3.9!

Nikon CoolPix S1000pj
Like any item of fashionable personal electronics, digital cameras are subjects to fads and trends. Nikon Coolpix S1000pj
The S1000pj is perceived as a novelty camera from the outset, so shaking this image is relatively difficult. Fortunately, in practice the projector is quite good for its intended purpose and playing around with it to display movies and photos is a lot of fun.
Pros:
- It's home movie time
- Intuitive projector design
- Camera stand and remote included
Cons:
- Image quality still needs improvement
- It's a lot of money for a compact camera

Nikon Coolpix S1000pj
A brilliant innovation, but image quality is below par and the price is too far above the average

In an impressive show of innovation, the S1000pj is the first camera to have an integrated projector. It manages this feat without adding too much bulk to the body either; at 96 x 24 x 63mm (WDH) and weighing 175g, it's smaller and lighter than the Samsung WB500.

Nikon S1000pj Projector Camera, I just love it!
When Nikon first announced the S1000pj Projector Camera I had a good laugh and just forget about it… But then the opportunity came for me to test this camera and to give it a try. Since the S1000pj is not our average Point & Shoot

Nikon S1000pj review
Printing, I suppose, is the most obvious option for those looking to build some form of output device into a digital camera, but only because we got used to the idea of Polaroid cameras over the past 60 years.

Review: Nikon COOLPIX S1000pj
When Nikon released the S1000pj, we were stoked about having a projector grafted to a traditional digital camera. When we put it to the test, the camera did a decent job but was definitely, ahem, outshone by its luminous counterpart.
Pros:
- The projector feature is Yuri Gagarin-stellar
- Pictures were pretty good in most situations without having to adjust a lot of settings
Cons:
- Low-light pictures are a struggle, especially if the ISO has to be raised
- Camera is heavy and bulky
- Novel feature means early adopter price tag
