Nikon COOLPIX S1000pj Digital Camera Review

Indeed this camera is a novelty in the affirmative sense of the word: it is fresh, interesting and innovative and while consumers will initially be struck by its exciting and previously unseen ability to project images and movies onto flat surfaces, soon after they will realise the camera itself is...

Nikon Coolpix S1000pj Review

The Nikon Coolpix S1000pj is one of the more unique digital cameras of year 2009. Besides having the 12 megapixel sensor, 5X optical zoom lens and 2.7 inch LCD, along with other bells and whistles like your average point-and-shoot camera, the S1000pj also features a built-in projector.

  • power-hungry projector will further reduce runtime, On-screen display lacks info about photos both in shooting/playback modes, Lack of manual controls, Limited burst mode

Nikon s1000pj Projector Camera Review

I don't think we've written a single story about the s1000pj without making fun of it somehow , and now I feel bad. Yes, a projector-camera is still a patently ridiculous piece of hardware, but I'm kinda crazy about it.

Review: Nikon COOLPIX S1000pj

When Nikon released the S1000pj, we were stoked about having a projector grafted to a traditional digital camera. When we put it to the test, the camera did a decent job but was definitely, ahem, outshone by its luminous counterpart.
Pros:
  • The projector feature is Yuri Gagarin-stellar
  • Pictures were pretty good in most situations without having to adjust a lot of settings
Cons:
  • Low-light pictures are a struggle, especially if the ISO has to be raised
  • Camera is heavy and bulky
  • Novel feature means early adopter price tag
