Nikon Coolpix P1000
Nikon quite literally aimed for the stars with the Coolpix P1000, thanks largely to its amazing telescopic abilities.
Unbelievable zoom
The zoom is astounding: The 3000mm equivalent NIKKOR ED glass lens is the most powerful ever on a Coolpix series camera and lets you explore the galaxy as well as the earth. Photograph not just the moon, but the craters, peaks and valleys that adorn its surface. Why look at a blurry Saturn when you can see the planet's rings? The Coolpix P1000 pushes technology to bold new heights so you get a close-up view of objects that are far, far away.
A stable zoom experience
The cost of extreme zoom power is the amplification of even the smallest camera movements. This issue is largely rectified by a Dual Detect Optical Vibration Reduction system which stabilizes horizontal and vertical movements.
Magical moving pictures
The Coolpix P1000 features 4K Ultra HD video combined with stereo sound, so you can create an amazing cinematic experience, based on that awesome zoom and high-quality image sensor. To help you keep control of the process, you can manually adjust things like focus and exposure.
Extraordinary fast-motion footage
The tricks keep on coming, with time-lapse and superlapse recording modes also available. Time-lapse combines still images shot at customizable intervals into a 10 second video, while Superlapse can capture video at speeds up to 30x!
Cool and compact
For all the features and awesome zoom power, the Coolpix P1000 is still a relatively compact and portable device, and one that's very easy to use thanks to a host of external control features like a smooth focus control ring, snapback subject acquisition checking and AF/MF switching.

the bottom line, i didn't like the images it produced. they don't stand up to close scrutiny under any conditions. nikon needs to step up the game on the sensor and processing front before this type of system will be worth the 1k price
Nikon COOLPIX P1000 Digital Camera - Brand New review
The Nikon COOLPIX P1000 is okay for sport and wildlife photography. It has an extremely long built-in zoom lens that's great for capturing incredibly far-off subjects. The image quality is also decent for its class, although image quality degrades significantly in low light.- Okay image quality for its class in bright conditions., Extremely long focal length., Feels well-built., Quick shutter speed.
- Very big and heavy., Very poor low light performance., Continuous shooting speed is limited by buffer., Bad autofocus performance.
Nikon P1000 Review
The Coolpix P1000 is a high-end, enthusiast-level bridge camera from Nikon. Its headline feature is its 125x optical zoom lens, which gives you a 35mm equivalent zoom range of 24-3000mm, making it unsurpassed in the market.
Nikon Coolpix P1000 Review
We fully expected the Nikon P1000 to be too unwieldy at 125x zoom to use handheld, but we were pleasantly surprised to be wrong. Outdoors on a sunny day, the P1000 doesn't require a tripod, but the hit rate for great shots isn't perfect at the telephoto end.- Crazy telescopic zoom
- Excellent optical stabilization
- Solid image quality in good light
- On-lens zoom controls
- Decent build quality
- Large and front-heavy
- Controls inaccessible while processing images
- Autofocus
- image quality suffer in low light
It's hard to place the Nikon Coolpix P1000 into a single box. Its focal range is unmatched, making it ideal for wildlife and lunar photography (or spying on your neighbors, we suppose).
- Capturing the moon and still wildlife from incredible distances
- High image quality for most situations
- focusing on moving subjects
- a long day of shooting
Nikon Coolpix P1000 Review
The Nikon Coolpix P1000 is all about its incredible zoom range. If you need a focal length of 3000mm, it's the only game in town. If you don't need that much zoom then there are far better cameras for equal or less money.- Capturing the moon and still wildlife from incredible distances.
- High image quality for most situations, focusing on moving subjects, a long day of shooting
Context - Video
I've had a bit better than a week with this camera. The small sensor struggles in low light but is really quite good in adequate light. Where or how else can you get a continuous zoom in/out on a scene with such range.
Nikon Coolpix P1000
Very Heavy. I bought i for moon shots, so far I have not been successful in focus variables. I am using a tripod with stability disabled. I am not and expert so my comments should be qualified by the word "armature".- All features function but max zoom is a disappointment
- Manuals are lacking directions on WiFi
- I want to pair with a Mac Book Air and so far I'm having extreme difficulty
Nikon P1000 Review
The Nikon P1000 is a bridge camera, sitting in the zone between compact point-and-shoots and interchangeable lens cameras – but it's far from your average bridge camera. Less a superzoom than a megazoom, its standout feature is its 125x optical zoom lens, which offers a focal length range equivalent...- Incredible zoom range
- Effective optical stabilisation
- Large
- clear OLED viewfinder
- Bulky for a bridge camera
- Not strong in low light
